'90s Box Office Bombs That Are Actually Worth Watching

Memories are questioned, Arnold gets meta, and cannibals take over the American frontier. These movies were low key gems, but you'd never know it looking at their box office draw. Beta: Virtuosity from 1995 with Denzel Washington and a soon-to- breakout Russell Crowe, that's a entertaining piece of hokum, plus Dark City. And The Iron Giant, which featured voice work for the Giant from Vin Diesel.

Last Action Hero had shit luck going up against the unstoppable juggernaut that is the first Jurassic Park movie. No movie was going to compete with that one. Every once in a while, there's a movie so massive that it feels like for a few months, the entire world is obsessed with it. Jurassic Park was one of those. LAH stood no chance, but not because it was bad. If it had come out at any different time a few months away from JP, it wouldn't have bombed. It would have been another one of Arnold's also seemingly unstoppable movie hits. He scored one after the other in the 90 right up until Batman and Robin.

Event Horizon was a damn good film. Didn't quite understand it when I was younger, was more for Sci-fi action, so the lack of ''action scenes' made me think the film was boring, but watching now, I can apricate the master piece of horror it is(although not a horror fan) it is a damn good film.

I really don't get why Last Action Hero bombed. It is one of the best parody and satirical action movie ever. The action is excellent, comedy packs a punch, Arnold was really good. It is one of his best movies for me

You are right. Every one of these movies is either quite good or totally effing brilliant. Strange days is even one of the greatest movies ever made. Ed Wood is defiinitely one of the greatest biopics ever made.

Ed Wood, Galaxy Quest and Mystery Men are fun, smart and easy to watch. Event Horizon is like a colonoscopy, someone thinks it's needed but the anesthesiologist called in sick and they went ahead anyway.

Mars Attacks was another movie that got overshadowed by Independence Day back in 1996. Thankfully the movie Mars Attacks is greatly appreciated and knew not to make a tacky sequel that no one asked for.

The little blue banner for the movie title shows Event Horizon twice. once for the actual movie then again for The Iron Giant. :p
Last action hero was a good movie. didn't even know it failed.

I think Hellboy 2019 is worth a re watch.
But yeah Dark City, The Rocketeer and Galaxy Quest were movies I saw in the theater as a teen and they were underrated fun flicks.

Many of these were favs of my brothers & I growing up. Event Horizon, Dark City, Galaxy Quest, Brain Dead (I'm Australian) & Tank Girl still do the rounds in our places.

I really the rocketeer I really like the rocketeer because it is just wholesome and fun. then again I am 80 s kid so most of my favorite movies are from the 80 s.

Dark City is a masterpiece of sci fi cinema. I'm so happy that I watched it at the theater back in 98'. I actually enjoy this movie much more than the Matrix.

Every movie in this list that I've seen in the past was awesome. I think I'm going to need to fill in the gaps and watch the ones I haven't.

Light replay of iron giant on cartoon network is a understatement, i remember they once had it on loop for 24 hours around Thanksgiving

Biopic doesn't rhyme with myopic. It's short for biographical picture, so it's like bio pic even though it's spelled as one word.
reply

I hate to criticize a kid, but one of the issues of The Last Action Hero was the terrible performance of the child actor.
reply

Galaxy Quest is one of my favourite movies. Tank Girl, Mystery Men, and Ed Wood are pretty awesome too! Highly recommend!
reply

Hey. I saw Dark City in the Theater there were more than 10 people there. I think I saw all but 3 of these in the Theater.
