Before they became big stars these celebs started in theatre! Chris Evans, Sarah Jessica Parker, Emma Stone, Hugh Jackman, Anna Kendrick, Kristen Bell, Julie Andrews, Lea Michelle and Kristen Chenoweth are theatre kids at heart! For this list, well be taking a look at actors and actresses who got their start on the stage before making the jump to film and television work

Pretty much every actor out there started in theatre, how do you think they would have gotten into acting in the first place? Also even if you're just taking about professional theatre, how dare you only include Ian McKellen as an honourable mention, but worse than that you didn't even acknowledge the fact that Patrick Stewart was up there with him! And where are Barbra Streisand, Carol Channing, James Corden, Ariana Grande, Josh Groban, Robert Pattinson, Judi Dench, Alan Rickman, Meryl Streep? God this list could have been a top 50 and you still wouldn't have even scratched the surface, you mentioned Chris Evans but forget that Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Hiddleston, Zoe Saldana, Samuel L Jackson, Robert Downey Jr, Anthony Mackie and Don Cheadle amongst others ALL began their careers on the stage!

So what Im getting is that if you do theater back when you are 11 you can be classified as starting out in theater. Im pretty sure most people ( unless you are totally against performing in front of people) have performed in some way or form to other people. Also you didnt mention Julie Andrews in Mary Poppins or Kristen Bell as Becky in Tom Sawyer the musical! (I know that show only last a few weeks but thats a pretty lead role in Broadway no matter what show)

I think it's a cultural thing. In the UK it is kind of assumed that performers will have been trained and started out in theatre. Yes, you do get those that go straight to screen, but most have been on stage first

I am sorry Emma Stone is a good actress but there are far better actors/actress that deserve to be on this list. Many of which have been mention in the comment section. No hate just stating the truth

What about Idina Menzel? Ive loved her for years and I remember being so happy when she started becoming a household name after Frozen. Heck I was excited when she made it onto Glee
reply

Soooo. the best the video editor could do was show Lea Michelle clad in a leotard, crawling across a table with her butt in the air when they talk about her being in Anne Frank in 2004?

I feel like if you are in the world of musical theatre, all of these were obvious. However, if you're not people may not really know. I knew, but that is the world I grew up in.

Tim Curry. He starred in the Original production of Hair in the West End before starring in The Rocky Horror Show in 1973, at the Royal Court Theater Upstairs.

Jason Alexander (aka George Costanza) deserves at LEAST an honorable mention. He did theatre and even won a Tony award before he starred in Seinfeld.

This list might just as well have ever single famous actor in Hollywood, besides like 5 actors when u go to college and study acting u do stage shows!
reply

Tom Hiddleston? Where is the person who had beaten himself for Olivier award long before he became one of the most charming Marvel villains?
reply

om, you forgot about Evanna Lynch and Julianne Hough, who both starred in, what is now the biggest franchise in movie history, Harry Potter.
reply

3 superheros OMG! Also Tom Holland is crazy talented Billy Eliot is an extremely hard role to play one of the hardest for child actors.
reply

Lea Michele was also in Ragtime in 1998 or 1999. She also played little Cosette in Les Mis a couple of years before Ragtime
reply

Maybe Jonathan Groff should have been on this list instead of Lea Michele given the controversy surrounding her right now.

Nick Jonas Started In The Theatre Too Gavroche In Les Miserables 1991, It Was Music That Bought Him To Movies (Camp Rock.

I CANNOT believe that you mentioned Kristin Chenoweth and said NOTHING about her originating the role of Glinda in Wicked
reply

Basically any successful screen actor has a background in theatre, whether professional or in school/community theatre
reply

Most actors probably began in theater. But I'd like a video of top A listers who began on Broadway specifically.
reply

You needed to mention that Jackman didn't just play Curley, as he says in the clip, but that he originated the role!
reply

Oh yeah, don't bother mentioning Kristin Chenoweth played Glinda in Wicked. Completely irrelevent to the video
reply

You forgot Christopher Walken tho. He was totally a theater guy before the scary or weird guy in movies
reply

lol i'm not gonna critique the video in a comment because when is msmojo ever very accurate with musicals
reply

Did you forget that Kristin Chenoweth was in Wicked? Like she set the stage for Glindas everywhere!
reply

Ian McKellen gets a shout out, but his partner in acting crime, Patrick Stewart, does not! How rude!
