Which one will you be watching this Halloween? For this list, were comparing two iconic family Halloween movies: Hocus Pocus and Halloweentown. For this battle, well be considering a variety of different aspects of these couples relationships, and trying to pick a winner. Both of these movies are made by Disney, though Hocus Pocus had a theatrical release and Halloweentown aired on the Disney Channel

Honestly I believe the story point should have gone to Halloweentown. With Hocus Pocus, the witches are executed for their witchcraft in the beginning, but when they come back, the rest of the movie pretty much just consists of them chasing around the kids that stole their spellbook. With Halloweentown, you have the Cromwell kids and their mother who purposely neglects to train them as witches, and their grandma who drops hints to the children about who they are and fights with their mother to begin their training lest the Cromwell line end with them, and then in Halloweentown itself, there's Kalabar who believes that supernatural creatures were wrongly exiled from the mortal world and tries to rally all of them together in retaliation, and the Cromwells attempting to stop him all while still dealing with their family troubles.
. Tell me again which movie has the more simple plot? Lol

This one is actually really easy. Halloweentown is far superior because of its STORY. With the state of films these days, I'm not surprised that everyone has forgotten that a STORY is the number one thing that makes a film good, bad, appalling, or iconic. Halloweentown overcomes its budget, lack of star power, and straight to TV release with a STORY. Now look at Hocus Pocus. Massively higher budget, star power, wide cinema release. But, the story isn't what anyone remembers about it. It's more the aesthetic than anything. And that's how you know Halloweentown is far superior as a movie. It's so great at the most important thing, the STORY. So, don't give me this nonsense about comparing trivial things. And look, YOU even gave Halloweentown the win in the Plot category. That pretty much says it all

Hocus Pocus blows Halloweentown out of the water! They felt bad and gave it a point for Plot, When it's plot can be explained in one sentence. Then gave them both a point for Most Iconic at the end, in an attempt to lessen the blow.
I was born when Hocus Pocus came out & didn't know that Halloweentown existed, Let alone 4 of them, & haven't seen one.
To end on a good note, I agree that transforming the town every year is cool as Hell! (Pun intended)
& if it's a part of your childhood, Fantastic.
You have 4 movies to binge.
For me, I'm pumped for my sequel. Finally.

Both are my top favourite childhood classic Halloween movies so both are amazing movies, but if I had to pick only one: Id have to say Hocus Pocus. I love Halloweentown but there is just something about Hocus Pocus for me. It is my number one all time favourite Halloween classic ever. Ive watched it the most ever since I was a kid and I cant go a year without watching it. Hocus Pocus 2 is not bad and still good but the original is way better

My allegiances lie to Hocus Pocus now adays. It came out when I was ONLY 2 YEARS OLD, so you can't fault me for having a love for Halloweentown and it's sequels. Except the college one. But Hocus Pocus just wins with better cast, plot, and jokes, and musical talent or emphasis. I mean, any spell in that is in an actual rhyming spell, to the point 'I put a spell on you' was actually a freaking spell and musical number in one.

This was unfair as one is a theater released movie and other is a made for TV movie. While I love both and watched them both as a kid, I'd probably say Halloweentown slightly edges out as the better movie. I like good character development. And as it had multiple movies they are more developed then Hocus Pocus. Also the scene in the movie theater creeped me out so much as a kid.

Hocus Pocus wasn't scary in the slightest, are you kidding!
Halloweentown gave me nightmares. The grandma and mum being frozen like that like in the house of wax was so scary, I kept worrying it would happen to my own parents.
And in Halloweentown II when the humans at the Halloween dance turn into monsters, that was horrifying

Ugh I hate hocus pocus but I do LOVE Halloween town! It's the witch with the teeth. Her character is just so ugly I can't bring myself to watch it anymore. I know that sounds terrible but I'm not saying the actress is ugly, she isn't at all. It's the way they make her character look in this movie.

Interesting trivia: The three Sanderson sisters costumes were actually reused in Halloweentown 2 and Worn by three extras in the film near the end, during the scene where the citizens of Halloweentown are returned back to their normal selves.

Disney should remake HalloweenTown as a theatrical release. I would go sleep outside the cinema from announcement day. Hocus Pocus is already at optimal performance in its original form.
reply

Yo i dare yall to do this again but with the other films but i hated the last one cuz Kimberly wasn't in it and we rarely see grandma aggie(not young version. Want debbie)
reply

I was born in 94 so I was at the perfect age to enjoy them both. I love both but Hocus Pocus is overall superior. Too different types of movies though, to be fair.
reply

I do love Hocus Pocus but Halloweentown will always be a little more special to me because Debbie Reynolds always reminded of my grandmother RIP to both beauties.

reply

Hocus Pocus is my favorite both are amazing. There will never be another Debbie Reynolds. R. I. P. Debbie Reynolds you are loved and missed.
reply

Both are awesome! If I had to choose, I would choose Hocus Pocus, but in the category of sequels, the trophy goes to Halloween Town.
reply

Fun fact Halloweentown 1 has an extra wearing Winifreds costume, and Halloweentown 2 has an extra wearing Sarahs costume
reply

Sarah was the only witch in the group who wasn't evil. She's my favorite witch. I would love to see her get redeemed.
reply

I totally like hocus-pocus a lot better hocus-pocus is more funny I think Halloweentown is a pretty weird movie
reply

Nothing can beat Hocus Pocus it's one of my all-time favorites and it's definitely become a halloween tradition
reply

Glad they finally stopped only doing 3-2 wins even though hocus pocus was going to be the clear winner
