Even Cupid couldn't make these romance movies look realistic. For this list, well be looking at the most far-fetched portrayals of relationships in film. Our countdown includes Grease, The Notebook, 50 Shades of Grey, and more! What do YOU think is the most unrealistic romance movie?

Grease: Its unbelievable enough that shed change everything about herself to be the girl of Dannys dreams. .clearly the writers have never been around this type of girl. Sandys decision is highly realistic. There are many girls who change everything to be with the guy they like. He hates red hair but has a crush on the cute blonde neighbor? Mom, I want to dye my hair blonde. He makes fun of her oversized sweater and army boots but compliments a girl wearing skin-tight pedal pushers and a low cut top with heels? Girl comes to school in a lower top, higher heels, and tighter pedal pushers. Girl finds out he only dates girls who will go to third base? She will go that far whether or not its comfortable for her because shes desperate for the guys attention. I knew a girl so mired in this mentality that she would always agree with her boyfriend even if she JUST said a totally different opinion to someone else. If he hated something, so did she. If he said cruel things about her friends, she laughed and agreed. She absolutely lost herself in every relationship. I never knew who she was from guy to guy. So, yes, Grease is completely realistic with the Sandy arc.

If I were Sandy, I would dump Danny the moment I seen him acting like a jerk.
As for Sandys personality and life, I would of focused on my studies and make good friends who were going to be a good influence on me. I was this way throughout high school, and I am glad that I didnt start dating until three years ago. I became a lot better off in the long run on delaying dating until I was in my late 20s.
When Sandy and Danny were at the drive-in movie theater and Danny touched one of her breasts and kissed her without her consent, I wouldve Karate chopped/kicked him and reported Danny to the police for assault!
As for the movie How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, I definitely would of chosen the dream job over a relationship and waited a few years to be in a relationship with a man who was going to accept the fact that I was a career woman and love me for who I am. If he didnt like that, I would dump him in a heartbeat and move on!

I don't think that's really fair to put Twilight first. From the list you made it seem like the context of the films had to be set in the 'real' world. So basically excluding supernatural or fantasy elements. So the unrealism is more to do with the romance and the characters rather than the setting. But to put Twilight in it at all, it's unrealistic due to the setting of one of them being a vampire. Maybe the characters aren't compatible either, but the whole vampire premise is unrealistic. The list should all be 'real world' based, so the unrealistic nature is more pronounced in a realistic world.

I really dont mind Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams in different movies, but oh dear God, I hated The Notebook with the fire of a 1, 000 suns! (Pretty much, all schmaltzy, saccharine-sweet Nicholas Sparks film adaptations are total nonsense) Plus, is it just me or do the older versions of Ally and Noah (James Garner and Gena Rowlands- Rest In Peace) are huge, ginormous people whereas Ryan and Rachel are teeny, tiny, petite people. Even their body dimensions dont match up when theyre older! They should have cast older folks who have a similar body-type to Ryan and Rachel.

Grease is realistic minus the ending of flying. How to lose a Guy in 10 days is possible with the idea of writers doing bets etc, & it also possible to fall in love at 1st sight that also goes with the Notebook and the ending of the notebook of the death is also possibility just like Titanic. Pretty Woman + Serendipity = Kardashian. 50 Shades is the underground clubs thing.

I agree with twilight and 50 shades cause their just sooo bad! And yeah some of the rom coms on the list are pretty corny and unrealistic, but isnt that what we want in romance films? Otherwise why keep making them? Especially at christmastime, you dont take then serisously, you just embrace tbe romance and hope to find someone to watch them with you someday

Romance movies can be a daydream, somewhat unreal, and full of heartfelt moments. They are a place for a heart to feel, not think. A movie where the most beautiful caring can be, is the story. Some of the other details are background, and if they can't be real, everyone watches the movie from a point of 'imagination. ' So we can all see it as a love 'story. '

Life As We Know It is actually quite realistic. Everything-the bad first impressions (which affects their opinions of each other, mutual love of their God daughter, the loss of the best friends, trying to create a family environment for the little one, even their major fight in the middle of the movie was realistic. I don't think it belongs on this list.

This list is weak. For real. You all need writers who know the topic they are discussing. Where is Simply Irresistible? Mannequin? Just My Luck? Scott Pilgrim? Me Myself and Irene? Enchanted? Last Holiday? Isn't It Romantic? 13 Going On 30? I mean come on. It seems like now you all dont even care about quality, just clicks. Do better.

The Notebook was fairly realistic. My great great grandparents had a similar story. Grandmother was from a very rich family and grandpa was very poor, living on a hog farm. They fell in love and when grandmas family found out, they gave her an ultimatum. Either give up grandpa or theyd cut her out of everything. She chose grandpa.

Most romcom are unrealistic. But Grease gets a pass because it's a musical. They are known for not being realistic. I think the most realistic one on the list would be Life As We Know It. I can see some friends asking other friends who don't like each other to be God Parents if they fit their child's goals and needs.

The most unrealistic rom-com I've ever seen was Knocked up.
First class, beautiful, rich and educated woman decides to start a relationship and move in with a trashy one night stand, because she got pregnant with him!
Where do we live in, XIX century?
Plus no chemistry and no connection between the two.

Some people could pass for much younger than they are. My brother could pass for a kid in their early teens well into his twenties especially when his hair grew out. I still look nearly a decade younger than I am, and my mom could pass for 30 when she was 50. So, with the right person that movie has merit.
reply

Why is it so weord that Noah and Ally were still together when they were old? Also not necessarily impossible that they pass away together. Alot of couples in old age normally one person will pass away and the other person soon follows after, while its not at the same time it can be quite close in time.
reply

The most unrealistic thing about 50 Shades is Christian wanting to be a married man. You can't un convince me he didn't have Doms after they got married. I don't see it has a happy ending for either, realistically she's the wife who stays at home with the kids while he goes out and still has his fun.
reply

I think you've missed the point of films. If I wanted to watch something realistic I would film my own life. Who the hell cares if these are realistic or not. They only need to be entertaining. God help Hollywood when films become too realistic. They will die a horrible death.
reply

'Never Been Kissed' is about second chances and coming to peace with your past so you can move on to a future.
The movie came out right around the time my ex was killed in a horrific tragedy, so maybe I'm a bit biased, but it will always hold a special place in my heart.

reply

Grease, a fantasy love story of fun, it's fun. however it would indeed have been much better if Sandy and Danny 'drove' off. why oh why the flying car bit? This bugs the shite out of my husband and I and also anyone whom I discuss the move with.

The Proposal was one of the most implausible romance movies for me. A guy spends one weekend with his bh on wheels boss and magically decides he loves her after seeing her ability to care for someone other than herself.
reply

Ha ha this brings me back to my mom and I watched Kate and Leopold and then Serendipity and we get done with Serendipity and my mom says that was ridiculously impossible and I'm asking but Kate and Leopold was doable?
reply

10. When in Rome
9. Grease
8. Life as we know it
7. How to lose a guy in 10 guys
6. Never been kissed
5. The Notebook
4. Pretty woman
3. Serendipity
2. Fifty Shade of Grey
1. Twilight

reply

Serendipity drove me up a wall. You know they're going to get together in the end, but the whole movie I kept thinking, Turn around, he's right there! and, Keep going and you'll see her! I won't watch it again.
reply

Hemm, no Lake House? I mean how can you write to someone in the past, and change the timeline repeatedly? Even The Avengers should consult them, instead building the Time machine to beat Thanos
reply

This should be at least a top 20, including: Yesterday, Last Christmas, About Time, Cinderella, Splash, The Lake House, Good Luck Chuck, Zack & Miri, Groundhog Day, Edward Scissorhands.
reply

I wouldve liked pretty woman if he hadnt of slept with her. I think it wouldve been more dynamic, because sleeping with her just showed that he did think of her as just a prostitute.
reply

Awwww come on now! Don't be dissin' on The Notebook. I loved that flick! And Serendipity! Both are a helluva lot better than the sappy Lifetime or Hallmark love story.
reply

Vampire Kisses is a better read than Twilight. Also I think The Notebook would be better if they change the way they met, its a lovely story that needs some fixing.
reply

Im surprised Love Actually isnt on the list. Thats probably one of the worst romance movies ever made despite the phenomenal actors and actresses that were cast.
reply

Besides the obvious fact that you shouldnt compare twilight to any of the other movies on this list I, for once, totally agree with you MsMojo. All Im saying is
reply

Id like to add one of my favorites to this list: Somewhere In Time starring Christopher Reeves and Jane Seymour. Lovely and ridiculous in equal measures.
