I think the topics to battle against were too subjective (most of them. This is highly based on perception and even culture.
1) Characters: For the first one, it is true that Frozen had more defined characters and with less characters in a movie, comes a richer uniqueness to each character because more time is able to be spent on each character, BUT in both movies, all characters had unique personalities and each movie shows character development in multiple characters. This still makes Frozen looks like it shouldve won the character bit, but one thing really stands out to me that says its actually tied rather than Frozen being better, and thats culture. In many cultural stories, plots or characters are left open to interpretation in some aspects. This is to engage the targeted audience; it is done very intentionally to leave the imagination open. Notice how people loved Frozen because they related to it, but Encanto blew up even more than Frozen did in the beginning (disregarding theatrical release factors due to the pandemic. This is because Frozens characters were too specific. No one can fully say, Im exactly like Elsa/Anna because they are their own characters in every way, and by the end of the movie, are fully developed. The people who related to the Frozen characters related to aspects of the characters, but not the full blown characters. This means that while the movie was excellent, it has more potential to wane culturally in relatability over time. Many culture fairytales and stories, by contrast, focus more on the morals, lessons, and applications towards reality of a story. Unfortunately, for people who are like those of the US, this can often lead to underdeveloped characters or too many characters to focus on. The US culture places its value highly on characters and character development, which is why it was a nice touch for Disney to still include so much character growth and development in Encanto while still keeping a bit of cultural vagueness in other characters. The reason why other cultures do story telling like this is because these stories are meant to be applied to reality, so you must see yourself in the person entirely to live out the morals, which is impossible to do if a character has too much of their own personality. Disney geniusly applied this cultural story telling technique of character vagueness while still giving each character a distinct personality to develop and it worked because people see themselves in these characters, not just by physical appearance, but also emotionally. I dont think Disney couldve achieved this accomplishment with less characters or more personality and character development like they did with Frozen. All that stated, I dont think the characters outweigh the each other per movie, I think this is based on personal preference and culture. So I disagree with the first one being Frozen, I think they were equal for different reasons and story values and cultures need to be considered. I personally preferred Encanto characters, but if I were to do an unbiased response to this, they would be equal. Tied
2) Magic, powers, and plot morals in relation to magic: I agree with the second argument, it is tied. They had equal amount of magic in the film, both were enchanting and beautiful, and the overall message of both stories were good and important. It really is impossible to choose. Again, this is a preference thing and I actually dont have one here either. Tied.
3) Adventure: I dont think this was really fair to bring up at all. Of course Frozen would win because Encantos story plot isnt about adventure. Disney is known for adventure stories, but just like all companies should do, with Encanto, Disney sought a change to their previous patterns to improve and reach a new wider audience. They challenged the belief that a good story must be adventurous, romantic, or some other genre to be a good story. Its extremely unique to have and hold up a good story in a single environment and Disney proved that stories dont have to be tied down to a specific genre, they just have to be relatable, have good morals, and strong concepts to form a backbone. They even did this without a villain! Sure, traditional Disney fans could complain, but for people who want something new and enjoy different branches of story telling, Encantos LACK of adventure was actually refreshing. Since this topic was brought up, however, then it should base itself on subjectivity rather than objectivity and be more about Did we like that Encanto was not an adventure story or not? In that case, for me Encanto wins out because I was sick of the usual. As Isabela puts, Im so sick of pretty, I want something true, dont you? This one could only be answered objectively if we were asking which movie was more adventurous or which one had adventure? But that answer would naturally be Frozen, which unjustly implies that Encanto was not as good because there wasnt adventure, but a good story doesnt require that at all.
4) Emotional: Again, very subjective, although I agree with your choice. However, I think the objectivity was definitely stated well in your video: The situations and characters touched relatable topics to real life and diversity, so it would reach a various amount of an audience, so the amount of relatability probably contributed to peoples emotions. Thanks to these facts, I think it makes sense for Encanto to win this one. This is still not objective, though, just a more logical option to state based on a wider relatability of the film as a whole.
5) Soundtrack: While its technically subjective by preference, the ratings can still give an objective statistic and in that case, Encanto wins. I also tend to agree, while the Frozen soundtrack was good, Let It Go definitely overshadows all the other songs in the movie, but in Encanto, while We Dont Talk About Bruno is the big hit, it doesnt really overshadow the rest of the soundtrack.
So, objectively, based on facts, statistics, or what a general perception would be, I would say to the following wins:
1) Characters: Tied
2) Magic and plot or morals: Tied
3) Adventure: Frozen
4) Emotional: Tied
5) Soundtrack: Encanto
Results for general: Tied
Subjectively, based on my own perspective:
1) Characters: Encanto
2) Magic and plot or morals: Tied by magic and plot, but I liked Encantos morals better
3) Adventure: Frozen (like I said, I dont think this one was fair to mention)
4) Emotional: Encanto
5) Soundtrack: Encanto
Results for me: Encanto! I love the movie so much!

I enjoyed Encanto better. The Frozen characters. were difficult for me to like. Let's just be honest. The only memorable character in Frozen is Elsa, and she was the only one I liked and cared about. All of the other characters are forgettable. I forgot the trolls were even in the movie and don't remember their names. The story was predictable. It was a Wicked/Enchanted knock-off generally. Disney had been going in that direction for years at the time. Let it Go was the only memorable song in the whole movie. Encanto was different for me. Each character is memorable. The story wasn't what I expected. Disney had not been going in this type of direction with any of their movies. The main character didn't seem designed to sell pretty merchandise. She was really DESIGNED and had detail besides looking like a pretty doll they were about to sell. The music was very immersive and catchy. All of the songs were memorable. It also brought a unique cultural perspective than the typical European Western princess set-up. I've been dying for stories centered from other cultural perspectives. It was more refreshing. Frozen came after Tangled. I kind of felt Anna was another Rapunzel. I felt awful that people ignored The Princess and the Frog only to rave over Frozen years later because it had an angsty princess and accidental unique love story (that wasn't really unique by then. I knew the Prince was going to be fake because of the foreshadowing and the fact every movie was doing the wrong guy type of thing by then.

I think people are just quick to jump on the bandwagon hate on Frozen because of how popular it was, without realizing it was actually the beginning of Disney breaking away from some of its most used tropelove at first sight, a main character not needing a love interest, an act of true love doesnt always have to be romantic And I think thats impactful. All other Disney characters have been loveless since lol. Elsa building her ice palace is still one of the best things Ive ever seen on an animated film, and it still looks good even if its from 2013.
The hype around Encanto is understandable though, its music is good, its colorful, fun, and the animation has significantly improved. So many good characters people can relate to. But Im not sure if its only this popular because its still new lol may just have to wait a few years to see if its influence would last. And if the sequels or whatever it is that they produce for Encanto would still be good, instead of ruin a good standalone film.

I do agree with most of the previous comments, Encanto should've won.
I adored Frozen, when it first came out, and I watched it every night for a month before going to sleep. But Encanto, I can't even describe, how perfect that movie is!
I watched it 3 times in a row, the first day. The characters are relatable and so amazing! The story and adventure (that the video here redeems nearly non-existent) just captures me way more. The music! GOD THE MUSIC! I didn't listen to anything other than the Encanto soundtrack for a loooong time after it had been released. Whereas, the Frozen soundtrack did get a bit much, fairly quickly. and unless I saw the movie, I didn't listen to it.
In short, Encanto all the way!

I like encanto and frozen, and I agree with round 3-5, but the first two definitely go to encanto. The characters in encanto mostly get development and a role in the story, even the ones that have a minor roll have their moments, even though they have so many people in there. While the only characters that I would consider on that level are Anna and Elsa and maybe Christof and Hans. Sven doesn't do much but he's cute, but Olaf is a bit annoying at times.
In both movies the magic is present as a burden (in different ways. But I personally find the concept of Encanto's magic more interesting and appreciate it that they also focus on what it's like having no powers.

I don't think i like Encanto, not because of the story, but because the animated, camera, and character movements, and songs are WAY TOO FAST and it's getting me very dizzy on every moves. It's like the movie is very cartoonist than animation. I'll go with Frozen because their movements are clear, like more human moves, their songs are emotional, they travel on outside the house adventures instead of inside the house adventure, many funny relatable moments, and beautiful winter magic. I'll say that Frozen is the most beautiful, emotional, and amazing animated movie ever.

all this time i was expecting something secret about Mirabel and why she didn't get a gift but. in the Encanto movie look closely at the part where Mirabel is getting ready to get her gift. She touches the candle but then wipes her hands by her dress, that MIGHT mean that the magic had fallen into the dress but no in her hands so thats why the door didn't take it and faded away.

A lot of people in the comments that I saw that the drawing of frozen is ugly, and I don't know why. But for me actually really beautiful. Frozen has been with me since I was young and I always like it the songs, Encanto too. The story is beautiful a master piece and the music too. But I prefer the most is both.

What the heck is going on here. Frozen is probably the greatest animated Disney film in the last 25 years. A lot of ignorants pick Encanto, one of the worst Disney movies. In 2 years, nobody will remember Encanto, lol. Frozen is objectively the better film, way superior in every aspect.

I feel like frozen and encanto rivalry is almost symbolical, like fire and ice( even physical, magic candle and literall ice from frozen. Even their respective success is different, the explosive success of encanto movie, versus stable longlasting domination of the frozen movie

Can we talk about and I know this is just because the animation was made a while ago but can we talk about how Elsas floor is made of Jello or it looks like its made of Jello when the castle is being made in that shot that was played.

I think in this case your trying to compare apples and oranges. Both films bring it own lovely message and magic. I dont think you can compare them in truth. Though this video was fun to watch to see someone try.

Both Frozen and Encanto have very similar plot lines (one example being how sisterhood love is the only way to break a curse) but I think Encanto told the story better. So Encanto wins imo.

For me Encanto is the winner. Frozen has got overshadowed by better later movies such as Zootopia, Moana, Raya and the last Dragon and of course Encanto.
