Tap should have received an honorable mention at least. Bringing together old and new school tap dancers and featuring incredible dancing from all, especially Savion Glover, Gregory Hines, and Sammy Davis, Jr. I also think Strictly Ballroom should be higher. Not only is it a good movie but it inspired the worldwide Dancing With the Stars reality phenomenon and sent people back to dance lessons so they can look good at weddings.

All your choices are excellent dance movies, but I'm not sure that I would consider them all influential. Many of the others who commented mention a number of worthy omissions. One other major omission in the influential category is 42nd Street - with the exception of the Astaire and Rogers musicals, Busby Berkeley's choreography for this musical inspired just about every other musical of the 30s and into the 40s.

White Nights! Im so happy thats on the list! I only saw it for the first time last year but OH. MY. GOSH. Its insane! Both men are incredible dancers! Barishnikov (I really have no idea if Im spelling this right) was justinsane. I dont understand the way he could move his body and be so incredibly strong too. That movie is so good and has some of the BEST dancing ever put in a movie for sure!

Singing In The Rain is one of my favorite movies of all time! Its so much fun! The costumes, the bright sets, the music and the of course the dancing! Ive only seen it about three or four times in my life but oh my goshthe dancing in that movie is unparalleled! All the actors are astounding! They just seem to flawlessly dance almost non top the whole movie!

Maybe you should have done a dancing through the decades series. There are countless dance scenes through so many movies that needed mention. What you did here was mention some well known movies with great scenes, but oh what you didn't mention. Break it up in decades or break it up in dancers. This was not even thinking about scratching an itch.

When it involves Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire, influential is an understatement. I never grow tired of seeing Astaire dance in films like Top Hat, Swing Time, Band Wagon, and Funny Face. Same with Kelly in movies like Anchors Aweigh, On The Town, Singin In The Rain, An American In Paris, Cover Girl, and Summer Stock

Congratulations Singin in the Rain! The movie wins twice in a row this year! Here are some more influential dance movies.
Save the Last Dance
Take the Lead
La La Land
Girls Just Want to Have Fun
High School Musical 123
Shall We Dance
Annie
Roll Bounce

Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers areBasically the King and Queen of on screen dancingThose two were just incredible! By themselves they were beyond amazing but when they worked together. They made dance magicTheir chemistry was and still is legendary!

You guys really love singing and rain( other than some Donald O'Connor numbers. I thought the movie was boring) Westside story, Should have been. number One strictly ballroom should not have been an honorable Mention. And what happened to fame?
reply

Seven Brides for Seven Brothers should have been on this list as many people considered it one of the best dance movies of all time. It features many unique dance sequences that have influenced others e. g. the barn dance number/scene.
reply

Does anyone remember that scene from The Bird Cage when Robin Williams does the choreographer bit? Hmm, what are the names/styles he mentions? Which one of them was also a film director? And yet somehow not even mentioned?
reply

Back those days you had to be a real thespian to be in films! You had to be able to sing, act, and dance. They were like actually Disney characters! . Today's movie stars just have to be able to act, that's it.

Still requesting: best Steven Sondheim songs for sleeping. i know you have done a video on best songs by him, but how about songs by him that are good for sleeping? Because i got insomnia dude, too many worries!
reply

There are more things wrong than right when it comes to the movie version of A Chorus Line. And where is An American In Paris? The final ballet, by itself is worthy of the number one spot.
reply

No mention of Bob Fosse? His intro in Kiss Me Kate or All That Jazz. Or, even Chicago, although it was after his death, it was atill his choreography. Otherwise, good list.
reply

An American in Paris? Broadway Melody of 1940? Seven Brides for Seven Brothers? Swing Time? The Band Wagon? And there's many more pre-1960 that I'm sure others have mentioned.
reply

What about Bob Fosse? Sweet Charity, Cabaret, Chicago, Damn Yankees, and so many more. One of most influential dancers, choreographers, and actors of the 20th century!
reply

Oh, out of the mouths of children! As she explains to daddy that God sent him his kids to make him a better man! and her love and loyalty to hope, adorable.
reply

Honestly, I would've just made a Top 10 for pre-1960 & another Top 10 for post-1960, because too many iconic 30's-50's films were left unmentioned.
reply

Surprised An American in Paris, Footloose, Billy Elliot, Cabaret and Fame didnt make the list, let alone not even in the honorable mention.
reply

One more Honorable Mention: All That Jazz. The gritty storyline overpowers the dancing, but that opening sequence still shines through.
reply

Royal Wedding was based (somewhat) on Fred and Adele Astaire's life. Adele married Lord Charles Cavendish and retired from performing.
reply

grease from justin to kelly ( even though it's known for being hated) rent high school musical newsies cats to name a few or la la land
reply

How is The Moonwalk out of this list? It was literally a phenomenon back in the 80s and didn't even get a Honorable Mention on this list!
reply

A few of these movies are musicals and not dance movies. Take those off and movies like Fame could be on there like they should be.
reply

An American in Paris has some of the most cutting edge choreography and cinematography of its time. Gene Kelly at his most creative.
reply

Totally agree with Singing in the Rain! My favorite movie! Thanks for including White Nights and Breakin! Both movies were underrated!
reply

I'm glad to see The Red Shoes on this list but honestly how many movies can you say actually inspired more people to become dancers?
reply

The opening dance fight and Mambo sequence from _West Side Story_ are some of my favorite sequences in all of cinema.
reply

This list is totally incomplete without any mention of Bob Fosse! Cabaret, All That Jazz, etc, etc! So wrong!
