The broken window at 17: 10 could also be a reference to Maguire's book, when the window bursts open during a storm, which scares Elphaba completely. The winds knock down the boxes with Galinda's head and she urges Elphaba to try the most frilly one. In the books, that's when they start to grow closer.

The poppies: When Elphaba accidentally casts the spell with the poppies, Fiero asks, what did you do and why didn't it affect me I think this is foreshadowing as the scarecrow is also not affected by the poppies.
