What Nintendo learned from the disastrous Wii U

How did Nintendo go from zero to hero in only five years? Not without learning some things along the way Also the switch did better by changing demo graphic
Before, the Wii U was demographic to children, family, what Nintendo is known for previously in the past. Which wasn-t a problem in the past because before 2005 as that-s what Nintendo did. N64(and before, Ps1, Xbox original one was all lowkey and made their advertisements for Childern to young adult and their games show it
Now fast forward to today where the -kids- back in the day are older and want to still be true to the company but something more their style like mature blood, dark, romance, etc only for Nintendo to come out with a large heavy controller with a tablet slapped in the middle, boring and repeating first party games, terrible and no support for 3rd party and overall boring
Nintendo learned that they can-t target a demographic like that. They now target Teens to adult. With young adult being the largest. Showing off how hip and cool it is. You can have fun with friends. The whole shabam while showing off software and games.
Personally for me, when I saw the switch the day of its release I started coming up with a plan to get money. Nearly 80% of my switch and Wii U games for the bundle.
Now it-s not to say that their isn-t terrible games on the switch. However, it was something new for disappointed Nintendo fans and other fans for different company-s
A hybrid console with good 1st and 3rd party and very interesting indie games.
Good job Nintendo\r\n

THE Wii u IS THE best system game ever game, you don't know anything girl.
Dreams of playing HD games on Nintendo and being able to support a company that is far ahead of their time, means that i made the switch, cause i bought it. not for those wack ass third party games but for mario kart 8, after that ssb wii u and Zelda, after that i was satisfied.
Still a switch is better, but dont forget wii u was best, i still don't own a switch but when i do, it's only going to be for Zelda and indie games, forget the money greedy bastards. coughxp
Wii u is still enjoyed in my house, wii still have free online play, and wii are the future of gaming, for now good bye my fellow gamers, stay positive and live and let love.

i dunno. i think the WiiU is (all-be-it a financial and marketing flop) still one of the greatest Nintendo systems of all time. a bit clunky, but its the only Nintendo system I rightfully call my -Nintendo-. It is everything Nintendo: the gimmicks, the addons, the powerful first party roster of games, backwards compatibility, and massive classic/VC library, and overall flexability and durability all give me reason to still weirdly love it over the Switch. not a popular opinion, i know but I love that machine.
reply

Unpopular opinion: the Wii U wasn't terrible. I still have mine and play it regularly as well as my switch. Sure I could sell it since I have no reason to keep it (all games have been ported to the switch or N3DS) but I genuinely enjoy having it. Sure it has its flaws, but it isn't virtual boy levels of flawed. When done right, the Wii U is a great console that deserves some respect. Also, you cannot convince me that the home menu screen music is not relaxing

Is it ironic that I'm watching this video and commeting on my Wii U browser? Anyways, she's right, the Wii U's gamepad only good feature is that you can -take it anywhere- as long as you aren't too far from the console box. I wasted my money buying this. It took me a year's savings to buy this and the other games, just to be met with glitches and bugs. (side note: who only spends 120 bucks on games? i most likely have spent at least a couple hundred per console)
reply

ok, i'm not a hater, but this video is wrong, u must pay on nintendo switch to play multiplayer games, the games are a little bit expensive and more more stuff that i forgot.
The wii u, in my opinion is a nice home console, i know it's a little bit old, but for the pro and the true gamer it really is a good console, you can mod it and play other consoles games like gamecube, n64. Idk

reply

Yeah, true. I had a Wii (which was amazing, and still amazing now that I could modify it without little to no possibility of bricking it, and couldn't justify buying a WiiU because I couldn't understand WHY I would WANT it. Now I know what it does, I kind of want to buy a cheap second-hand one. just so I can modify it and play all those WiiU games. lol.

As someone who isn't a fan of Nintendo stuff and has been watching the Switch entirely from the sidelines, I feel like by far the two biggest factors were marketing and BOTW. There was a lot of doubt earlier on about third-party games, but people wanted BOTW so much that they were willing to fork out the cash for a whole console just to play it.
reply

I own a Wii U and I'm happy with it. Works good, needs less power than other consoles (30W, games are good, the library is for me infinite as it can read all Wii games and from the shop I can buy many games from other systems (nes, snes, turbograph. The gamepad is even a great feature as you can literally fall asleep playing you game. :oD
reply

Not really Disastrous considering the amount of great games were made for it, that have been ported to the switch, which it wouldn't have if the WiiU didn't exist.
Plus the WiiU had way more features than the Switch had.
If you offered me a WiiU or Switch now, i would pick the WiiU everytime.

i love how one of the other portable consoles available was literally another nintendo device. i don-t know how that-s so funny, how they did it before with the 3ds, why couldn-t they do it with the WiiU? it-s almost like they tried to make the DS lineup a console, but failed pretty poorly
reply

Thank god the Wii U and 3DS were both commercial failures, because now Switch gets ports from both systems! Super Mario Maker, Yo-Kai Watch, Splatoon, Monster Hunter XX, they're all ports from Wii U and 3DS on Switch, so it's a good thing both the 3DS and Wii U were commercial failures!
reply

Also isn't the Wii U controller kind of seen as to be portable? like it looks like a psp, but it isnt? like you can only play the wii U with a big screen. I think switch did this right by actually having the console be 100% portable. (although. that battery life tho)
reply

This doesn't even mention that by the same time the actual good games were finally being released, the switch (nX) was announced to be in development so no one wanted to waste their money on a wii U knowing they'd have to buy a new console in a couple years or so

You guys do know that when using scales as metaphor the more valuable side weighs more and is therefore lower than the side with less value. In other words your thumbnail is opposite of what you were going for.
Awesome video tho, Simone is great

reply

the switch is technicly speaking just a more powerful gamepad with less features. it just has the advantage of botw(which was developed for wiiu)and better marketing. the only actual thing that it does better is making it easier to develop games on it
reply

also the zelda game was made for wii u and then ported to the switch, you have a lot of misinformation. Before making a video of this you need to search information and be a big brain not an idiot that critics a console only because it failed bruh
reply

I just gave my little cousins my old wii u. I know it-s not the best, but I hope it-ll be a good gateway into them wanting better consoles/games. And it has backwards compatability, which means I can force them to play all the wii games I love!
reply

Tbh im still gonna get a wiiu like. next month. But ONLY because of the virtual console. And some of the games. But in december im getting a switch. So if the switch had a virtual console I wouldn't even get a wiiu.
ALSO THANK U SIMONE.

reply

Actually the Wii U was pretty well received, even more than the Switch. (IGN gave the Wii U a 8/10 and the Switch a 7/10. So you're just a low-life sub-human fascist guilty you like the Switch more. Except the Wii U is better you fascists!
reply

To be fair. The Wii U wasnt DISASTROUS. It just wasnt great. We were so used to Nintendo releasing smash hit consoles (and still are) that its become shocking when they release something mediocre.
reply

Nowadays, the Wii U finally has its place, as an awesome $200 Virtual Console nostalgia toy that plays Xenoblade X. It'd be down to that last perk if Nintendo ever changed its mind on Switch VC.
reply

I just felt mad at the Wii U because almost all of its first-party Nintendo games were side-scrolling 2D platformers. Holy hell am I sick of seeing side-scrolling 2D platformers.
reply

I remember my justification for buying a Wii U in 2012 was -a Zelda is gonna come out on it eventually-
And then it comes out on the Wii U AND Switch: -) g r ea t

reply

I got the WiiU back in 2013, solely because I knew the next Zelda game would come out on it.

i once dropped my wii u console about 12 inches onto soft, downright plushy carpet and it broke so badly they told us to just buy a whole new system

Not gonna lie. I loved the Wii u. I loved playing bayonetta, splatoon, smash, etc. But I felt like there was always something missing

50% talking about the girl talking

-I like to know when I spend $300 on a console, I'm about to spend an additional $120 on games. - Succinct and correct.
reply

Only the uninformed think Wii-U is a terrible console and enjoyed those Gamecube looking graphics of the original Wii.
