Have you ever wondered why there are so many boss battles that involve a big monster that has eyes in the palms of its hands? Brian David Gilbert has wondered that, so he decided to look into it

Some eye-hand bosses could make sense as a reference to the hamsa.
For example, Eyerok is literally a guardian of a burial tomb, if we interpret pyramids in Mario to have been built for the same purpose as real life.
Other hand-eye bosses are similarly guardians of some sort of temple, tomb, or sacred place. Evil is extremely interpretational - one could say it's -in the eye of the beholder. - Thus, in the case of these guardian types of eye-hands, the player is the 'evil' that is being warded off.

I cannot describe to you how good of a sleep aid these are I've watched almost every unravelled and bdg video like 100 times because they just knock me out. not cause they're boring but because they have an amazing ability to just be reliable calming content that I can fall asleep to
reply

The best part about this is how much creative freedom Polygon gives BDG, because you can just feel how his soul and m e t a p h y s i c a l e s s e n c e really just seep through into the video. It-s really just a video game focused BDG video with a fresh Polygon paint job.

Maybe the reason Brian (and I tbh) thought Bongo Bongo had eyes on his hands is bc his head is just one massive eye. Personally i think i just put the eyes on his hands when i forgot he had a body and wasn't just a pair of evil bongo playing hands

okay, the callypso arc may be a bit of filler, but you gotta admit it never hurts to get a hermes cameo. also, I'd argue the lotus are even worse, because they feel actively detrimental to the plot by getting rid of several of odyseuss' men.

this dude looks and sounds like a crackhead that found a genie lamp and wished to go back 7 years for a second chance but messed it up in an equivalent way by becoming a weeb.
THERE'S TWO MORE WISHES

in all honesty I'm guessing some folks got really inspired by Vecna always being the big bad in dnd and either conciously or unconciously put undead hand eye man in games
reply

I like imagining a version of this as a monologue in a play where it ends with Brian getting punched in the throat. That's how you know you've reached god-tier wordplay.

I can't believe he did Shadow of the Colossus dirty like that. Those spots only glow because you have a frigging magic sword guiding you to all their natural weak points!

5: 52 oh he's talking about the episode where he makes the car
5: 54 oh he's talking about homers odyssey
5: 58 oh he's talking about anime

I'll admit, when I heard the words -Eye-, -Hand-, -Boss-, and -Monster- all in the same sentence, my brain immediately went to Vecna from DND
reply

I think it may have something to do with the fact that the eye and the hand are the absolute bare minimum needed to interact with the world
reply

I think the Hamsa still fits because most of these eye-hand bosses are usually guardians of the dungeon or temple they reside in
reply

Not really a boss but the eye palm effect from yume nikki was what I immediately thought of when i saw this in my recommended

I left a comment on the SSS video for -Nobody Saves the World- about how comedically genius the Cyclops arc in The Odyssey was.

I miss BDG making regular good and funny content. Just can't live with one middling music video every couple of months.

Does any game have a trypophobia boss? Watching this I just had that thought and now I'm scared of the possibility
reply

Mario is a war criminal so crushing him is warding off evil, Eyerok is doing double duty as a Hamsa and an eye hand boss

This video was preceded by an ad for Meta.
You are accepting money that comes from Meta.
I am disgusted.

Nononono, bongo bongo from skyward sword didn't have eye hands. BUT, the equivalent boss from ocarina of time did.
reply

What do you mean bongo bongo doesn-t have eyes in his hands? Have i slipped in another reality again?
reply

Hmm, I never liked hand-eye bosses. They feel formulaic, boring, and often janky (poorly coded boss behavior.

I felt like I got Rick rolled at the end of this vid, even though I didn-t. Still interesting though!

for the first minute or so i was yelling OMG DEAMON SLAYER, then my hopes died down, THEN I WAS RIGHT
reply

You see, in 197X these guys wanted to play modified Lord of the Rings and they made this guy named Vecna.
