You're using the wrong brush for your hair type Andrea: i have very curly hair (a mix of 3B and 3C) and have been finger detangling for YEARs because that's what my curly hair specialist told me to do, sometimes i use a wide tooth comb when im lazy but i tried using a denman brush because a friend said i was doing my hair wrong by finger dentangling and it got SOOOO FRIZZY afterwards. i didnt do anything different from my normal routine just used the brush instead of my fingers. she said it was because i didnt do the technique but of course she told me there was a technique AFTER i finished washing my hair lol but anyway, i feel like im the only curly head that doesnt use one because my hair just gets super frizzy if i brush it, even when brushing it in the shower while detangling with conditioner it will get so frizzy when it dries but finger detangling makes my curl look so defined does any one else have this problem or is it just me that doesnt know how to use a brush? LMAO

Watched this on a whim since I don't usually put much effort into my hair and it's in very good shape given that I don't do much to it. Literally cold-luke-warm wash and condition (it's purple so I try to wash as cold as I can stand to help preserve the color, use medium-wide tooth comb to comb after shower and let it air dry. There are generally no to few tangles, and I only use a regular comb at all other times (even have one in car and another in teaching bag) - so it gets combed several times a day. I have a brush somewhere, but even use the wide comb on the super rare occasions I use a blow dryer (when it's say 20 degrees outside - and this is Texas - so once every few years. Very informative. would have been helpful for my girls' hair - will send to them, they are definitely using the wrong things!

I love my mason pearlson brush that I inherited from my grandma because it makes my hair look smooth; however, natural bristles are not good for your hair. They cause breakage. If you look at natural bristles under a microscope, youll see how rough they are. The rough edges catch against your own hair and tears the strands. The smoothing effect is only temporary but these brushes actually make your hair more frizzy in the long run. In fact, dermatologists generally recommend brushing and combing your hair only as much as is required to get the knots out. Look up boar bristle dermatology and youll find some interesting articles. One by the American Academy of Dermatology Association is particularly interesting. It talks about the myth of brushing your hair to distribute oils.

I use a paddle brush in the shower.
I have decently curly but also dyed hair so I have to be real gentle with my hair.
I use conditioner to brush it through first then I shampoo and condition or use a hair mask and then I do not touch my hair with a brush until my next shower lmao.
I dont blow dry my hair often but I do blast it with gentle heat if Im in a rush lmao.
Tho I now want to give a wide tooth comb, always avoided combs cos they HURT but ima be brave and do it lmao.
Also gonna have a look at a Denmen

That $250 brush i have so many I threw away so many bc most are my grandmothers etc they were the most common brushes back in the day especially 40-70s the boars were coming then after 59s the mixture of boar with nylon bristles came in. So Im not sure why anyone would pay $200 I mean yea I like my nostalgic ones bc of natural wooden structure and handles but dolorama has some great mix nylon and boar brushes flat and round for literally few dollars at DOLAR STORE most expensive one was $7

My favorite detangling brush is a wet brush Why: Detangles hair very well both wet and dry, and very affordable.
But I definitely love and recommend boar brushes as well with the so many benefits whether you have oily or dry scalp it helps promote a healthy scalp but hair as well since it distributes oils.
I use other styling brushes, but the 2 I listed are my favorites and my everyday go to even on days I don't style my hair.

The pink detangling brush he shows is my baby. it's on Amazon and it's not expensive at all. the bristles are different lengths and I guess that helps it detangle, it's the best brush I've ever bought and I used to use it for my booty length straight hair. but also just don't detangle your hair when wet. let it dry and if you need it damp to style it, just get it damp.

It is most probably wrong but I love my paddle brush, I have very long thick hair, and I can brush so much of my hair at one time making the job even quicker. One bonus is its great on my scalp. I have eczema on my scalp and when it's really irritated the paddle brush is the best for giving it a good scratch. You would do the same if you could feel the itch.

I have naturally curly hair. I use a cheap wet n dry brush (by Cala)& do the same technique as the denman brush for curls. I heard so much about the denman brush and watched tutorials on how to use it for curly hair, BUT Im way to broke to afford a new brush right now. If Im not gentle I will pull my hair out doing it though, lesson learned.

I just wanna say it takes a piece of my soul every time someone tells me to use a wet brush. My hair gets knotty as HELL for no reason, and I have A TON of it. I tried using a Wet Brush once on my wet brushed hair, IT NEVER WENT THROUGH MY HAIR! dude I dont really have a choice i dont care if my scalp hurts all the time

I was today years old when I learnt different brushes are good for different hair types & styles. Huh. Lol. I had long since accepted that my bit of natural wavy/curliness would always be brushed out and flattened and that's just how it was. But apparently I may have just been using the wrong type of brush! Who knew!

Him buy a wide tooth comb to untangle your hair me with my 5$ brush ripping out the knot that is the size of an orange also whats a ceramic round brush cuz if its the brush I have Ive used it to detangle my hair almost my whole life its literally the only brush I will use

The boar's hair brushes or even the faux boar's hair type brushes are what usually fluffs out my hair or I guess volumizes my hair. Seriously I've taken one of those things I've managed to like get my hair to fluff up enough where it looks like I grew an inch or more.

As an excellent blow-dry smoothing tool to de-frizz try the Tangle teazer blow dry smoothingtool.
You use it from wet to reduce the water content before round bristle brush usage.
The bristles do bend near heat but it does make drying quicker and more effective.
