I am Polish, English and Irish and we make the same thing. We just call them potato patties/pancakes. Ours can be with made with shreds or with M Potatoes. But the ingredients are the same. Not sure where the family got the recipe, but, LOVE these I ask for them as much as I can This potato whatever you want to call it, is the BEST LOVED the way you two showed everyone how to make this wonderful food item so, it won't be lost to the next generation

I really like that Miz is very open to people trying things and using ingredients that are easier to find, plus explaining the history, it's just a good time. When you see someone billed as a comic you expect wackiness, which can translate to a giant mess (fun just. a mess) and she's staying well on task while still being fun. And super genuineAlso I'm really enjoying the puns.

They look amazing But I was suprised to see that this is the exact same recepie as for gromperenkischelcher which is a dish Luxemburg claims as one of the Nations dishes, its intresting to see different cultures or countries history overlaping and sharing similarities

My father taught me to put a cup of salt beside the work area where I chop or grate onions, especially red cebollas. And ever since, I have been doing it. It basically helps not to make your eyes water. I don't know the sorcery behind it but it works.

We do have exactly the same stuff here. It's called Kartoffelpuffer. It's also served with applesauce. Wouldn't call it a Jewish invention, it's traditionally German food (also very common in Switzerland, Austria, and Poland, it just has a different name.

Freezing the onion helps prevent crying because the sulfur stuff is stored as liquid in the onion so when its frozen almost none of it comes out. I dont think it helps when you grate because like Carla said youre basically pulverizing it

Lol I think you guys are thinking matches. if you light a match and put the unburnt end in your mouth, and the burnt end will be right under your nose and that's what you will smell other than the onions. Work 100% of the time for me.

No kidding, Latin guy here but Im going to start with these Jewish recipes because look amazing, pretty easy to make and sounds fun too For an inexperienced cook it seems like a nice start. Thank you for making me excited for this.
