Professional carnivore Nick Solares looks back at three decades of eating pastrami at Katz Deli on Lower East Side. The neighborhood has changed significantly since he moved to Rivington Street back in the 1980s but aside from the inevitable price hike, not much else has at Katzs. Nick reminisces about his first visit and tells us why the pastrami is his favorite. Watch More of The Meat Show

Under 5. 00, even in whatever year that may have been in. Unreal. I had one last week. 21. 45. How? I can understand you want to take advantage of the situation, but that is completely and utterly insane. 21. 45 doesn't even get you a side. It gets you a pastrami sandwich. The working class meal. I went to Minetta Tavern and had an amazing dry aged beef burger for 33. It came with a side of fries, how generous. In Montreal, I had a Schwartz's sandwich for about 8, which is still in my opinion, overpriced for what it is. Don't get me wrong, Katz's or Schwartz's. You both have unreal, delicious products that will compete with new coming shops for decades (hopefully) to come. But please make it reasonable. Yours truly, Fatty Sandwich Lover

i had schwartz's smoked meat during the montreal GP in 2015 and 4 days later had a katz pastrami, and there's no comparison in look or taste. schwartz smoked meat looks and taste more like corned beef than pastrami and it wasn't as juicy as katz pastrami. i still see people order a katz pastrami the wrong way, don't order a pastrami rueben or add kraut, its like adding steak sauce and mushrooms on a prime steak at peter lugers why would you ever. order it juicy not fatty or lean. bypass the rye and get it on club bread. also no deli mustard because there's mustard on the tables where you can add as much or as little as you want. its the best sandwich on earth because of the flavor and how juicy a katz pastrami is.

The problem with well known deli places such as this is that yeah the food might be great but don't go there expecting customer service of the highest level. you and hundreds of thousands of other people have seen this place as a recommendation by food experts of nyc. so its going to be hard for the people behind the counter to smile have a chat and ask you how you are whilst there are 15 people behind you waiting to order. If you new Yorkers love your deli meat sandwiches I'm sure you would know of places that serve them just as good elsewhere where many people don't know about its existence. Go support your local businesses who make great food. katz is for tourists now.

had a corned beef there and it was spoiled so I took it back to the counter and the there told me that I was lying because all you people lie, so I told him to take bite of the sandwich. he took a small bite of the other half and spit it out, turn around and out a 55 gallon trash can than stared trow away all the coened beefs away. not until than did he turn arounnd back to me and said I'm sorry for calling a lair, but what did you mean, YOU PEOPLE? Give me your check he said I can get raid of it. I walked out never went back.

Try Benz Best wayyyy better. also Katz did change. When they stopped using Kosher meat the quality of the beef is low and u can taste it. There is a big change from when it was 30 years ago when I was a tyke hell i would say a big difference from 15 years ago. Benz Best is queens blvd queens ny is wayyyy better. One bite into their pastrami or corn beef and ull be tearing. They didnt change one thing and is the only old fashioned kosher deli around NY these days. Give it I try I dare u to tell me that I'm wrong.

Overpriced place. 24 for a sandwich with no additional condiments i. e. no lettuce, no tomatoes nothing. The bread was a simple white bread. Instead please go to a deli just adjaced to times square, it is 9. 45 for the same sandwich. I am from Michigan and have no affiliation to either of these places but this is just from my personal experience. I guess when a shop is covered by celebrities and magazines, prices and tantrums go up but quality plummets.

So much hate in the comment section lol if you dont like it. Dont go. I recommend katz because its just the best pastrimi ive ever had. If you dont got money just dont go. They say the employees are rude, they arent. Ive been there three times in like a week and a half and different dudes, same attitude (positive) i dont tip unless i have a waiter by the wall section.

here's the thing, when a lot of Europeans think of American food, they think of McDonalds and fast food chains, whereas real American food is such an amalgamation of so many different cultures, American cuisine is the pastrami sandwiches at Katz's it in the arguements over who has the best barbeque, St. Louis, Kansas City, or Texas! its things like that!

Hershel's reuben pastrami in Reading Terminal Market is a step above Katz. Katz meat is phenomenal but the sandwich as a whole is rather underwhelming as it's only pastrami and average bread. Hershel's puts special reuben sauce, sauerkraut, cheese in a panini press and melts and crisps everything up. It'll change your life.

Katz Deli is all right but I wouldn't call them the best Carnegie Deli used to be the best but they closed so I guess now Katz took over which is okay but still doesn't compare to Carnegie sandwiches especially the damn cheesecake I think Carnegie had the best cheesecake in the entire East Coast or on the planet
