Get yourself some cheese with LOROCO if there is a Hispanic grocery shop around. It adds to the authenticity. Also OAXACA cheese is a good substitute with some COTIJA and some central american cream also go really well in the pupusa. Also refrying the beans until dry is what my mom does, it just tastes way better in the pupusa. If you can get your hand on some Salvadoran style chicharron molido you also in business.

I love it when the preparation of a recipe calls for getting my hands all into the ingredients and this recipe is perfect for me. Pupusas are one of my favorites; unfortunately, I don't have any South and Central American restaurant options where I live so I need to make whatever I'm craving. Thank you, Angelica, for sharing your pupusa recipe, they look so yummy.

They look awesome, I love that you prep them all before you coolk them. I cheat when I make mine (with bacon grease, I use a tortilla press, make two tortillas, and placing the filling between them, then work the dough and trim the excess off the edges, it goes much faster for me the beginner.

Pupusas are my fav I could eat them everyday we have a El Salvadoran couple that do cheese and beans and cheese and spinach pupusas here In Australia at a farmers markets and he puts his homemade chilli sauce on top of it it's delicious I'm hungry for one now I'm off to to the markets now to get one

Your masa looks so dry which can lead to cracks and holes when making the pupusas. and cooking them. For best results the masa should be like firm mud. And when breaking off a piece, work a smidgen of water in to maintain moisture (masa dries quickly) And ALWAYS use refried beans!

I got to try papusas at a local restaurant. Love them. They have shrimp, chicken, shredded zucchini, pork, asada, beans, spinach. All with cheese also. My faves are the shrimp ones, chicken ones, and the zucchini ones. Very inexpensive, from 1. 25 to 3. 00 each. They are so good.

I am really happy to see this video, because I love all recipes that are stove top no baking required recipes, given that I do not have the resources to be able to bake, so this looks like something yummy and yet easy to make, I will be subscribing and watching more!

I used to buy these from an old woman that cooked them on her cart in downtown LA! They melted in my mouth. I tried to make these at home and failed miserably lol. Now, thanks to you, I will be cooking these tomorrow. THANKS. This brought back wonderful memories
