Mark when in Cape Town. we have many different food cultures, and all is delicious. In Cape Town we have Malay food and their curry is a lot different from Durban (Indian) curry. Malay curry is milder but more aromatic and fruity. Make sure you visit Wembley Roadhouse in Athlone and try a Lamb curry Salomi (roti with filling) and a couple of samoosas on the side. Enjoy your meal in their beautiful quiet garden. You will forever remember this meal. And also remember to try our biltong and droewors (dried beef and dried boerewors.

Al-Hamra's tikka chicken is AMAZING! I was introduced by a Hindu Indian friend about 20 years ago and it's STILL the best tikka chicken I've ever had, anywhere in the world.
In fact it may just be the best chicken there is, apart from a good Mozambican peri-peri grilled chicken, which are also super fire (exactly like the ones in Alex!
Nice one Hammy and Mark! Lovely to see you guys together, Hammy is a great S. A food ambassador. Glad you enjoyed S. A, Mark; come back soon!

my only issue is you come to south africa and u take a white person to show u around like we dont have black south african food influencers, Nikc cant even pronouce inyama yetloko , congrats to nick hamman great guy but he cant connect to black south africans like a black south african, he cant say this what i grew up on this is what my grand mother used to make etc etc etc he is a voyeur in the black food culture

As a Capetonian I am both disgusted and intrigued. The spicy tikka chicken and the Moz chicken looks amazing, but the overly large burgers with cheap neon yellow mustard and thin bright red ketchup (don't call it tomato sauce) looks revolting. I enjoy mopane worms, morogo and pap when I'm up north though, and although I don't like tripe I won't criticize anyone who does. Nice video. Mark. Thanks!

Mark Wiens, you should do another trip to the bushveld where we will cook you a whole warthog on the open fire. Also whole labs rib standing next to the fire, Braaibroodjies, and finish it off with a proper Sondag Middag Ete directly translated to the best Sunday luch you everhad! (Includes a whole lamb leg, veg and sweet pumpkin with desert you have never tasted before.

Before seeing the plaza, please tell me you went to the dude in corner selling samosa! I hope that shop is still alive!
Another thing, I am white from there but really if you want to have a good suit please visit the Indian tailors you will not have quality like that ever.
And uncle Harry’s go to randfontein drive in. That is the king of kings

Mark now u know why we complain about food in USA. It’s cos we are brats used to menus in South Africa with a wide range of Variety and immense flavor and quality of flavor is very important.
Look at the difference of Township neighborhood food in South Africa vs USA. In South Africa u get salads and tasty meats

Aww man I love this video and as a South African I've realized how ignorant I am of trying out different culture foods, I'll start doing that. Maybe once a month I'll travel around Jozi to try out different foods, hope to convince a friend to join me cause I'm scared of going to unfamiliar places alone.

Mopani worms, not a fan. I've had them a couple of times, tastes like the trees they eat. We used to get them at our school as well. Long black worms with red/white markings. Green juices when accidently stepped on. yuck. Only later when visiting Zimbabwe did I learn we can eat them.

South Africa is the Gen Z of the world, we know it’s English but all other English speaking countries can’t understand them because they use slang for almost ever single word it’s like why can’t you just use the normal English words for things

When I was a small girl we had a helper that was basically my mom. I would sit in her room eating fried cabbage and pap and magau. Today, I cant replicate that taste, it is truly a special memory. I hate fine dining nonsense, this is real food.

Hi Mark! I’m Darnell Morrow. I live in Sacramento CA and I would love to try the mopane worm I’ve never eaten any worm or insect and you made the Mopane worm dish in South Africa look delicious. Can you mail me some with a recipe

That's not the only SA foods. Curry and rice, vetkoek en mince, oxtail pooitjie, malva pooding, braai broodjie, paptert etc. show some white culture not just black street or Indian food

The food from Sollys Corner looks like what every drunk guy cooks at home after coming home from the bar.
Nothing special about frying everything and put WAY TOO MUCH SALT on it

reply

Damn as an adopted Saffa and British Asian with many Saffa maties. Learning about their culture, slang and their food is amazing. Had many a good jol and garage parties.
Love it.
