In the premiere episode of Family Food, we head to Swagath Gourmet, a South Indian restaurant run by the Iyengar family in Edison, New Jersey. We meet brothers Sesha and Murali as well as Murali's wife Padma, who all share a passion for bringing authentic South Indian food to the table. The lentil- and rice-based vegetarian dishes that have made Swagath a local favorite are not only delicious, but also extremely healthy. After spending time with the Iyengars in their restaurant and their tight-knit community of Edison, we see it's no coincidence that the word swagath means welcome in their native tongue. The minute you walk into Swagath, you feel like a part of the family

I'm from Karnataka! My father hails from Mysore too. -This video just took through a beautiful journey! There's a different feeling watching our people in abroad, doing so good, spreading goodness! -You find a lot of vegetarians here, I'm one too! -People are warm n have zero ego! -We feed people from our hearts, there's a saying here -Athithi devo bhava- meaning -The guest is God-! -This way of treating people with respect is what most of us follow here. ---Thanks for the video! -Loads of love

I think they can focus exclusively on South Indian vegetarian dishes and have a really great restaurant. Saag Paneer and chickpea curries are good but a divergent from the regionality of their restaurant brand. Indians are obsessed with having variety on menus, but I believe seasonality and locally sourced ingredients could be a big draw and a fresh concept for an Indian restaurant.

I have watched this video a year ago and it was filled with hateful comments and people bashing his Tilak and using really filthy language against him for him taking pride in his brahmin origin. They are either deleted or reported now. No matter where you go, never ever forget your roots. A man losing his roots is better dead than alive. We proud of what you are.

My mouth is watering and I'm not even hungry. I live in Morrisville, NC where we have a huge Indian population. There are so many Indian restaurants around but few are serving a lot of the items this restaurant makes. It would be great to see more variety. If anyone lives here as well and knows of places like this please let me know!

VADA! +U+ I LOVE VADA. Imagine a savory donut. My mother puts chili in hers. :3 gives it that nice little spicy kick. I love vada so much (no joke) I basically hover/hop around as my mother makes it and sing what could be called a vada song. --Edit: in the video. those SPOONS! On by close ups at least. Put those things away. HANDS!

These are the greatest Americans who work the hardest and remain optimistic in very difficult times. Donald Trump has never sacrificed anything; Donald Trump has NEVER worked a day in his life. Donald Trump is NOT AMERICAN in any way. Donald Trump is the worst American who ever wasted space and time and oxygen. Sad.

This is very inspiring but there are dark sides to these communities as well because of how close and homogenous they are. A Tamil friend converted to Christianity and he was completely ostracized from not on the community but his family. His engagement was called off and he lost his job.

Once a brahmin always a brahmin, even in USA he is claiming that eating meat create killer instincts. Well! World's cruelest system of exploitation and discrimination is created and being practiced by 'vegetarian' brahmins, the system is known as 'caste system' and 'untouchabilty'.

I really appreciate what these guys do. even though me being an Indian I'm totally upset about what he says around 4: 16 and that's Soo LAME. It makes me wonder. hasn't any vegan murdered someone? and you know better know even people who eat meat are Wise.

Sorry to say. but they are no good. I have been to this place after watching this video and their food is disappointing. the chutney and sambar was quite old they did not seem like it was freshly made. so don-t have too much of expectations
