One of a Kind Chef Knives Forged in Rural Vermont

Nick Anger is a bladesmith, woodworker, metallurgist, and chemist who creates utterly unique, custom Damascus steel knives. He works alone out of his workshop in Vermont, surrounded by different hydraulic presses, hammers, and anvils. Nick specializes in layering different materials, combining them into billets, twisting them, and creating a blade that is both functional and beautiful. He prefers to be inspired by the world around him and he rarely, if ever, takes commissions for pieces. Nick likes making knives more than he likes knives

One of my favorite bladesmiths. Each knife probably has 40-60 hours into it. People complaining about the price of his knives don-t understand the time taken, the overhead for tools and materials, etc. Some people will spent -20, 000 on a used car. I-d rather spend -18, 500 and have one of the best kitchen knives ever forged from 100+ layers of crucible steel. Bob Kramer made Anthony Bourdain a knife that cost -32, 000. before people go apeshit over his knives being -1500+. Toxic Fab/Rad Knives makes custom folding knives that have gone for -12, 000 on auction. If you-re not a knife person who understands steel grades, materials, tempering, metallurgy, etc then those prices sound insane. But these tools are more beautiful than diamonds to a small group of people. People spend millions of dollars on paintings. this is art that can be used to feed your family, or your guests, for the rest of your life.

there's this saying. ---I fear not the man who has practiced 10, 000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10, 000 times. ----Bruce Lee---and also there's this japanese saying. ---in order to be good at something, you have to do it a thousand times. but in order to master it, you have to do it thousand times a thousand. ---yes it's not enjoyable doing it over and over, but if you truly wanna be good at your craft, you have to do your due diligence. do the time and the work. ---even a 90 year old martial arts master still says i still have things to learn. or a 80 year old 3 michelin star sushi chef still says the same. and they are already at the pinnacle of their craft.

His interpretation of the meaning to knife making and the things he dropped from his life to shape and mould his hobby into a passion is just like the path I I want to take for knife making myself. it-s now made me even more determined to Do whatever I need to to make it happen. thanks for the upload

his knives are great but people that are crazy over kitchen knives do not like knives with too much belly. we like our knives with more like french / japanese knife profiles. almost flat with a tiny bit of belly. thin behind the edge, lots of edge retention but not too hard to sharpen.

I love knives. I enjoy cooking and a sharp knife is a beautiful tool to work with. It would be a dream to own and use one of these knives. I won't let my knives go in the dish washer. They would kill her. Lol. I mean I look after my knives and clean them after every use by hand. ----

He says it not about the money but the feeling it makes him feel, mins later he says he worries that ppl aren-t going to buy his knifes and wants money. Just say you make knifes for money don-t need to sugar coat it and be all philosophical about it. Fake ppl these days be a man

These aren't practical if you are a line cook in any way lmao. We're already broke to begin with and we buy Japanese knives for the way they sharpen and hold their edges. You can get a pretty decent Santoku from good brands for around 100-
