Backyard Beekeeping #13
video description
If you haven't started thinking about it yet, start thinking about what you're going to do for mite management. I bought some plastic drone frames which attract the mites and when the bees cap them you remove the frame and freeze them which kills the baby drone bees as well as the mites. You can also feed them to chickens.

When I was 14 I had a big beehive on my window inside my room! Every other day I would get a sting but was all fine until after my mom called the animal control or something like that and they took it away. When I got home from school I saw the queen she had beautiful eyes like she was full body with stripes. By the night I saw them building up in corner of my bed so I had to use a vacuum cleaner to suck them out of there! It was an awesome experience for couple of months

how exciting! i dont own a bee hive but our previous neighbor has 6 of them in the backyard. i always watch them when they are harvesting honeys. when can you start harvesting honey? do you need to replace the worker bees after a couple of months? because you said they die after 6 weeks or so? or will it be possible to harvest a new queen bee from your first beehive?

Bee stings are good for arthritis and chronic pain. But why? These calm little girls in most hives do not care at all that you are there or tending to them. that's why you really just need a smoker and maybe gloves. its not like you think at all. they are too busy to care about human caretakers. i bet they do memorize your face. very meticulous and smart.

Beautiful Home. A tip for you. You don't ever want to start bees off having them in two supers. The extra room you give them placing them in two supers when you just get them, is room for mites and beetles and max moths to move in. Start them out in only one super, and let them build it full before adding an additional super. Enjoy.

How is beekeeping these days? I dont see the hive in your videos lately. Sometimes the queen starts a new hive somewhere else. Did you had that problem? And how was your harvest? Curious for an update. Greetings from The Netherlands.

Laura and Aaron - loved this video. I loved the Q&A sesssion at the end. I hope you try beekeeping again. Third time the charm? The bees dont know what they are missing on by just abandoning the hive.

I certainly hope to purchase a bee hive & gear once my inheritance arrives. (step-father passed away) Might as well set up something beneficial to the environment and my family from his gift to me. =)
