How Many Plants for a Hanging Basket? codyor448: Bacopa is a FULL SUN plant. Huerchera is a perennial, shade plantl, use Black Ipomea, sweet potato vine, which is also a full sun plant. Wrong mix of plants. Drop the coconut coir, use burlap. Biodegradable, and sooooo much easier to use. Coconut coir can harbor diseases, and insects and cannot be used year to year. I grew and sold municipal hanging baskets, and taught hanging basket classes at my nursery for years. You need (in a 18 pot) 1 vertical center plant, thinking of a clock face, plant focus plants (those with bigger flowers) at 12, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 oclock, and fill inbetween with component, smaller foliage flowering plants. Plant with timed release fertilizer, layered starting 1/2 way up the container as you fill it with potting soil. Also add Soil Moist, water retention granuals into the soil, according to mfg directions. Water with Jacks Classic fertilizer when the hot weather comes, according to mfg directions. Both soil moist and Jacks Classic are the best for hanging basket success.

I know this is old, but you fertilize once a week? Do you use full strength? Or dilute it because your doing it so often? And for petunia baskets, how often to fertilize? And with what strength? I use the regular miracle grow plant fertilizer. Is this ideal for petunias? I bought a more acidic fertilizer for my Norfolk Island pines (miracle grow for rodedendrones) wondering if this would be more ideal for petunias? I also will be planting a begonia and creeping Jenny basket tomorrow. What type of soil and fertilizer should I use for them? Sorry for all the questions. Im a noob

I love and appreciate all of your helpful tips. Thank you so much! Some of us have a really brown thumb but working on turning it green Im wondering is it possible to share how many hours of sun if any your planters will get and exactly how much water and how often you will be watering them? It would help me so much! I think the problem I have is over watering. not sure

Can you do a demo on the half hanging baskets for the porch. Mine are 30 in. I tried one summer and the plants just didn't do well. I may need something that's going to be able to handle hear. Absolutely, beautiful arrangement. Thanks for sharing.

What would do well in a large hanging basket around 14-16in diameter, Zone 5-6? Thanks. I've been using begonias and licorice plants but want to switch it up this year. Also looking for plants which aren't overly water hungry either.
