Planting a Few Early Spring Crops!
video description
Thank you for your super informative videos! I am starting a raised bed veggie garden with much apprehension this spring because I live in Colorado. Im in zone 5, but because of the high elevation of 7200 ft we get a lot of wind, extreme temps, intense sun, hail storms in summer, and its very dry. All of these things present a major challenge to getting things to grow. Can you offer any encouragement or suggestions? Also, can you tell us where to buy the David Austin Roses you speak of so much?

Laura, where did you get the cloche? I planted cabbage, lettuce, radishes and Brussels sprouts from seed last week. Well see if I get anything between the birds, rabbits and squirrels. Last year I used small laundry baskets from the dollar store and inverted them. It helped but the cloche are more pleasing to the eye. P. S. Never apologize for time with your precious family. Babies grow up way too fast. Enjoy this time with Benjamin. Hell be running around through the yard before you know it!

I had brussel sprouts planted in my fall garden that did not produce anything. I managed to keep them alive and they are now starting to produce but, I've noticed that they look like they are going to blossom. Should I leave them alone or pinch of the blossoms? This is my first garden here in Caldwell ID and it's so different than gardening in Portland OR where we moved from. Thank you for your help I love watching your videos and I'm learning so much since we are in the same planting zone.

every year is different for me too, i also chip away (winter care/ clean up, etc. this is the first year (since our 9 year was born) that i've been able to be very on top of garden work. the weather has been just wet more than snow & ice in my area (zone 7) which makes it easier to get stuff done. i'm super excited that i will be able to get new garden beds in- a project i finally have time, money & energy to do! great to see your new video. keep em' coming!

So glad to see that you are getting to plant spring crops! Here in East TN, its freezing and possible snow for today and tomorrow. Can you tell me more about the broccoli and kale cross? Ive never heard of it. I think I would like it. Have you planted it before? Thanks for taking us along today. I think now that you are slowing down in clean-up and planting you may enjoy it even more! Benjamin is so sweet. He seems to be growing. Yall have a great day!

When our daughter was small, I do all the spring prep in one week. I spread it out so I could play with her and get the work done. Now, it has been nearly 25 years, there isn't much to do. Plus I have a chronic illness that prevents me from doing things like I used to. Hubby is like Aaron and keeps the lawn mowed so I don't have to do that. You are doing great! Thanks for sharing. Happy gardening.

I can't handle more than 2-3 hrs in the garden anymore as I get older so I try to do as much as I can each day the weather allows. I lost a huge splitleaf philodendren in our unusually long freeze this year. It was 25 yrs old and too huge to cover. It has always come back in previous years but the tips of each stalk are mushy. I cried when I saw it! Hoping yr little pine makes it

When I was younger I worked/played all day till it was done or I was thrashed. Now, at 61 years old, I divide my yard up in 6 sections ( I have over an acre ) and work only 1 hour each day in that section has been great! Things get done. it does take longer, but I am able to do other projects after that hour and I am more focused. Have fun! Gardening Hugs! JONI

Hi Laura, garlic is looking awesome. I'm in Melbourne Australia and it is about time to start planting winter crops. I was wondering if you could do a video on planting seeds of any kind. I have never really planted seeds successfully. I don't know how to water them without seeds popping up or disappearing. They just don't seem to grow for me. Cheers, Cinzia.

Hi Laura. I'm in a zone 6 in northern NJ. I always want to plant peas early in Spring but I'm afraid we'll get some late frosts or snow that'll kill them. Usually I plant them too late and the weather get too warm and they don't perform well. What sort of weather should I be waiting for to start peas? Love your videos and thank you so much!
