Self Watering Planters UPDATE

Self Watering Planters UPDATE Garden Answer Margie: I definitely believe that you should continue planting the same combination in all the pots. Just like your hayracks on the other fence, the uniformity of all the same plants in the same pots makes a bigger impact. This is more pleasing to the eye than trying to readjust to a different combination of plants in each pot. It's so interesting to be at one end of the fence, then look back and see the fountain grass so uniformly and the rings of purple and yellow around each one. If there were different combos in each pot, even if you planted the same thriller in every one, would seem helter skelter instead of uniform. It's absolutely amazing how well these pots have performed with yours and Aaron's feeding/spraying and topping off water consistency. Thanks for this UPDATE guys!

I'm having a terrible time w aphids on my petunias even though I sprayed twice w the product recomended by my local garden center. I'm going to order the neem you mentioined. Is that something I can use preventitively next year (as you did w the BT0? If you ever spray for aphids again would you consider showing the process on video? It's so tricky to reach every part of the petunia.
Thanks for everything you two do (such as illustrating the importance of planting in the correct light. As much as I love your gardens and respect your knowledge, your personalities make the show for me!

We watched this so late we were about to have Garden Answer withdraws. So awesome that you show what a planter will look like without the need for sun. Oh yeah no fair you dont have issues with humidity. I know you guys would like some rain but trust me too much just hasnt been good to us lol. Although what we have in pots have done amazing. I also think that you should stay with the same arrangement with all the planters. Awesome video!

I am now living in a heavily wooded lot and so I am trying to learn how to have color in heavy shade and in some places dapple sunlight so I would love to see what you could come up with next year for that container that is in full shade. I have a front porch that I love but I had limited color (2 kinds of sweet potato vine and creeping jenny that worked great) because so many things I tried for color fizzled out. I am zone 7.

Absolutely Gorgeous! Although I like the symmetry of all the containers, I like the idea of planting differently just from a learning perspective to see what works best and the different combinations. And thanks for showing that container in the shade. Again just from a learning perspective, it's great to see the differences in plant growth just from the change in light conditions. Thanks again.

By us in South Africa, purple fountain grass is an amazing edition to any garden. Is a perennial over here. Which is a bonus. My garden will from now always include a couple of grasses. It's a filler for the border and a triller in a container. And planted next to a walkway, it's very elegant and textile. Every time I walk past them, my fingers just have to comb though them. Definitely a must have!

So very pretty! Must make you smile when you drive in! How about next year you do 3 or 4 in the middle different than the outer ones? Something tall. a big bold plant. and then different around the bottom, for the middle ones. Then. the outer ones with a lower flowy plant with some others around cascading over the pots? Yes? No? You know best, Laura. Everything you do is beautiful!

I loved this years combo, liked it so much better than all the pinks last year, specially because the same plants grew differently in each pot, so some have more Bordeaux, or limoncello, or a bit more royal velvet peaking out. I'd go for all the same next year, it really goes well with your more formal style of gardening, at least in my opinion. Thanks for the great videos!

They look beautiful. As for next year, i think it depends on what is most important to you. Having them all the same is lovely and polished. Different combinations would be a fun experimentm but would not give the same cohesion. I would enjoy either one as a viewer and the different combos would be more interesting. But, if it were my home, i would do them the same. :)

Gorgeous, as always! Thaks for the update. I love the uniformity of your pots. Having said that, I have a few of those same containers on my deck and I planted them differently. I live in a townhouse with a small yard so the Crescent Garden containers really allow me to expand my options and experiment with various plants. With gratitude from zone 7a.
