Better Late Than Never- Planting Garlic! Garden Answer Sweet: I hope you're able to keep your kitties inside at night. I'm not trying to be a downer, but it makes me scared/nervous to see the two eaten birds on your lawn. There's probably something coming in that can smell your chickens, but can't get to them, so goes after morning doves. or whatever those bird feathers belonged to? I don't know what type of predators are in your area, but could be anything from owls to coyotes to something bigger? I have even heard of bald eagles (during the day) picking up deer fawns and flying away with them! My friend actually almost lost her cat that way. She had him on a tie-out while she was working outside and a Bald eagle swooped down at him right in front of her! Crazy!
We never know what kind of critters are around our properties at night. I never knew we had a cat around our yard until we got a little snow the other day and I saw its little footprints down the driveway! My husband said he saw the prints around our garage, so it was probably after mice.

Laura, I ran all over town and nearby towns checking with my local garden centers, feed and seeds and farm supply stores (6 different establishments) and I was only able to find 1 variety of hardneck seed garlic at my local garden center. It seems to be soo rare to find the type of looses bulk seed like you all provide at Andrews seed. Would yall ever be entertaining the idea of selling your excess cloves that you grow in your garden plot? Picture this! How wonderful would it be to have the luxury of watching your farmer ( you) buy her seed garlic from her family, watch her sew it and get updates on it through the season when she can and then watch her harvest it, and then purchase it and give back to her family for it? Am I just dreaming too much here?
Let me know your thoughts!

I've been told that I can use garlic from the grocery store if it is organic. It doesn't have the sprout inhibitor. Our store doesn't sell organic garlic; so, I'd have to order it. I didn't realize there were so many different varieties until I looked at the garlic for sale online. I think the soil is still workable; but, most all of my gardening stuff has been put in storage. We haven't had snow yet; but, I don't imagine it is too far off. I quit watering the grass when we started having freezing temperatures overnight. If we're lucky, we still have daytime highs in the 50s; but, that will end soon.

crunchy grass. that's something we can relate to! not from cold but dry dry dry dry. our sprinkler system is on all year; we just adjust the timing and number of days we run it. rain? what's that? ha. thanks for the lesson on garlic! i tried growing some last year but the tomatoes took over and i think i had one plant that produced some sad garlic. so i will try again in a different bed love kitty (russell? cheddar) helping you dig! haha. and oh. hmmm. who took out the birds? any kitty 'fessing up? looks pretty chilly where you are. we're just happy to get below 85 right now here in socal!

Wow Laura, your weather is kinda amazing, it got super cold here in Idaho, then it warmed up, so the weather has been strange. You're lucky that you can still plant a few things, although I haven't tried planting anything, or even checking the ground to see if the soil is workable. Love when Russell was playing with your arm as you were planting the garlic, kitties can be so crazy fun, and Russell is so darn cute. Thanks for all the tips on planting garlic, I'd like to try planting some next year. I hope you have a great day, see you soon, bye for now.

I love your videos. Living in a zero property line house so there isnt much land to plant. Besides getting some great advice about gardening and succulents - my current obsession - my inner gardener lives vicariously watching you garden. Would love to see more about houseplants, too, since Im venturing there to try and green up our house. Calatheas are my new favorite houseplants. Thanks for your wonderful advice and information. Look forward to your next video!

I have never thought about planting garlic, we live about 30 mins. away from where they grow garlic here in Gilroy, California. We can smell the garlic down this way in Campbell/ San Jose, Calif. its pretty strong on some days: ) Im glad you talked about the difference between store bought and buying from a garden shop, because I was wondering if you could use the store bought garlic. Your cat was super cute playing with you. Tfs.

I have a question. I planted my garlic two weeks ago and mulched it with straw and I just lifted up a corner to see if anything is going on and the layer that's against the compost is moldy is that going to ruin my 175 cloves. If it matters I'm in RI not Long Island Rhode Island. We get that question. lol you probably have never heard of us.

Great video as always. Like you guys. We are dealing with abnormally dry fall. ( In nothern Utah. I use those water pearls for our lawns because we have already blown out our irrigation lines. Do you or have you ever used the bio- degratable water pearls for your lawns? And if so. What kind do you guys use?

Love how well you take care of your garden! We got a bunch of leaves from a friend yesterday so I'm going to try the leaf mulch. Have you thought about adding cattle panels as trellises to your veggie garden for vining crops? They would look so pretty covered with cucumbers, squashes or gourds.
