Waxed Amaryllis Update & Aftercare!
video description
The whole reason for which I took it out of the water was that I noticed that The nice little roots that were growing from the ring or white, but that there was a whole lot of brown ones that seem to be coming from the center. I thought they might be dead. I still think that, because they dont look as fleshy as the white ones.
Do you have any experience with that, or have you put on a video about forcing hyacinths in water, and possibly troubleshooting? Do you have a knack for explaining this very well, so Im hoping to pick your brain.
Thanks for the video to show us how and what you did, and I hope to find the follow up video here somewhere to see the progression with these bulbs through the year and into the next.
Update I just had a quick look to see if I could find the link for the follow up to this video in your Information section. I didnt see one. Would you mind putting that in there? It sure would make it easier for people who like to follow your projects through. :-)

Great video. Thx.
I moved to ID almost 10 months ago from 9b to 6b. Definitely plant culture shock. I had 20+ Amaryllis plants when I arrived. My very sick hubby if 48, passed 10 days after I arrived. I have had 3 serious back surgeries leaving me pretty debilitated some weeks/months. When winter came, I just couldn't take care of them. All but 3 died and I'm not sure they'll ever bloom but I'm trying. Do you have a fertilizer you'd suggest. I will use the bio tone in the furure.
My Amaryllis where outside and faired well in 9b, even when we git freezes. .thx again and hope next time you and momma come to go to Boise, you'll pass right by me and maybe I could bye you 2 a cup if tea or coffee.
I saw your video last week on Antique Mall. Such fun

Last winter I bought some from lowes when they marked them down. They had the wax on the bulb and the care said no water no dirt. So I looked them up and it side they would not grow. Well I said what the heck I started watering three of them to se what would happen. By spring they started a long root. So wee planted them in a big tree pot along with other plants. Well it grew the longest and prettiest leaves. Is we took the wax off before planting. But I had no blooms. Hope this year they will come back and bloom. Hope I have the orange open to bloom the other where red.

I had one wax not ever grow so I took it out of the wax and planted it outside in my veggie raised bed. It is now on year two blooming. When I bring my in to repot in September I cut them all back - leaves and any stems so the bulb is potted and put to rest. I tried one year to keep the leaves on and it did not bloom until I cut them off and set it back to rest for 6 week. It is now growing a new stem and leaves and will bloom in the next week or so. Thanks for the video. I love looking for ones that bloom at different times. thanks

I had some that lasted 20 years and died the first winter in north Idaho when I left them in the pot they were in for 10 years. I left them in the pot all year in Northern California and they came back each year in July oddly. They were huge. It snowed here in north Idaho when we moved here and I didnt realize they would go squishy in the pot. So sad I lost them after 20 years. Bought the waxed ones this year 2021. Going to try to get them to bloom instead again this winter indoors. Crossing fingers.

I received a waxed amaryllis bulb for Christmas. By Feb 2 or so, it began to bloom. It produced 7 red flowers in a short time, most looking great simultaneously. There were 2 stalks. After the flowers died, I left the stalks alone. Now fast forward to March 27. A new stalk shot up so quickly that by today, April 4, it is 17 tall! Incl the bulb height of 3. 25. The original 2 were about 12. It is on a hall table with no direct light. I will keep it as is and hope it does well with no bulb rot.

There is a way to split and divide the larger Amaryllis bulbs. I found one video (its in Itslian, with subtles, but the entire process is explained very well through visual examples. From cutting the bulbs to inserting the very long toothpicks, until about 6-8 weeks later little bulbettes are formed.
The video shows taking one bulb with 2 different leaf stalks all the way to the creation of 8 separate mini bulbs. I will look for the video title for you. Back soon.

I need advice please, I do not have a green thumb. I dropped a waxed amaryllis that I had just purchased. The 2 parts that the flowers should grow out of are damaged; actually both split open. Should I just let them grow and see what happens or should I cut them off at the bottom of the plant. Any help you can give will be greatly appreciated.

Whatever you do, do NOT throw out an amaryllis bulb encased in wax. Just take the wax off and care for it like any other amaryllis bulb. I had one this past year, took the wax off, put it in a pot with potting soil, put it outside after the frost past, and now it is vigorously blooming again, bringing it back indoors.
