Planting Hyacinth Bulbs & Project Updates! Garden Answer Beasley: I can't wait to see that Hyacinth planter in full bloom! I was glad to hear that you have decided against doing the long garden in white as I thought you would get bored fast. I know I sure did many, many years ago. I had planted a moon garden ( for my husband) as white is his favorite color. I planted an area that got sun to part to pretty much full shade. I had a love hate thing going on with it. It looked awesome during a bright or full moon, the sunny side got all washed out by the suns light. I did not enjoy it much. Other then I loved the plants and flowers just not the totally white, silver thing in sun and so large of an area. I scaled it down a lot to a shadier area with a slight bit of sun and was much happier. We seem to enjoy the same colors and plants and flowers so thought I would share my experience with you. My white / silver moon garden at 1st was 4 to 6 ft wide by 120 ft long approximately in size. Scaled down to another location to about a 6 ft by 12 ft area. Much nicer: P

NOOOooooooooo! Don't cut down the lilac tree! That probably took a long time to grow like that. wish mine were that big! It has such interesting structure too!
Another thing you might want to consider is the noise of those air conditioner units in the summer. might not be an area you want to hang out in. Maybe there is something you could cover them with?
One other thing that popped in my mind is will you be running drip line through there? I see a water spicot there. if a hose is attached, will the hose ruin flowers planted around there if it is dragged through them? Just some things to consider, if you hadn't already!

Honestly! It's still January! Let's ENJOY winter! There's plenty of time for Spring & Easter at their usual times! Trying to hurry seasons/holidays is awful! We no sooner finish putting Christmas decorations away; when, suddenly; you're doing Easter? What about all the days BETWEEN those 2 holidays? Time already flies by so quickly! Let's just enjoy the TIME BEING more! PLEASE SLOW DOWN everybody? Enjoy NOW! There's plenty of time for future holidays, etc. LATER!

I like the idea of moving the white moon garden to the new space. BUT. my concern is that because your house is white that you be sure to keep color next to the house so it shows up against the house. and maybe putting a small patch of color in between the long stretch just to separate the moon garden spots to keep them smaller and more contained. if that makes any sense! Just my observation since I also have a White House with black shutters! Stephanie

The white flowers need something green at the back to shine. The arborvitae are excelet for this. I am sure, if you decide to put white blooms near the house, you already have in mind something green to put there either. On the otherside, I can imagine beautiful roses, different color in each section, paired with other flowers to contrast, so it won't be so monotonous. Too long driveway for me, to put just single color.

Laura, after having a moon garden myself, my recommendation is to put such a garden in an area where you might sit late in the afternoon or early in the evening when it is comfortable outside. I had mine on one side of my deck. Several of the blooms had fragrances and several of them had wonderful blooms that one could see in the light of the moon. So pull up a chair and enjoy the labor of love that you would put into it.

I always think a moon garden should be planted in an area that you can enjoy in the evening. So will you be able to see the moon garden on the side of the house from a sitting area close by? Or would you be able to see it from inside from a room you use a lot? I would also suggest adding scented flowers like nicotiana, etc. A moon vine that opens at night would be fun too if you can work that in.

A moon garden is not limited to white blossoms, silver foliage and heavy night scented flowers also have a place in the moon garden. Any plant that will shine in the summer night will enhance the evening experience. I have lavender in my moon garden because the scent is lovely in the warm evening. I can't wait to see what you do, I'm sure it will be gorgeous.

I think either or for the moon garden. Either place it will look great. As for the A/C units, privacy lattice screens with a climbing vine that maybe blooms with white flowers or a climbing Euonymus. There is a creamy white and green climbing Euonymus and it will give you year round colour/interest.

Flim-flam, I love the Dad words. they escape from my mouth sometimes too. LOL! Is the grass seed you planted in the Easter arrangement just regular lawn grass seed? That arrangement where the bunnies are going to reside is going to be so cute. I love the scent of blooming hyacinths!
