Trimming, Fertilizing, and Planting More Hellebores! Garden Answer Marla: Hmmm. I'm confused. You used 'Flower Tone' last year and now you are using 'Plant Tone'. Is there a reason for the switch? Also last year you stated, in one other video, that 'Rose Tone' ought to be used on flowering perennials. Does the type of fertilizer, just not matter? My understanding of the Phosphorus, Nitrogen and Potassium components, they should be at different levels for various types of plants?

Thank you so much Laura for posting this video, and all the videos you post, especially these days. I know I personally need this in my life right now. I'm in Connecticut. Can't really go shopping for hellebores, even though it was on my list for this year. In the meantime, it's garden cleanup and maintenance and taking joy in existing plants waking up. Again, thank you, for lifting spirits

I bought one the other day. It's been so cold and windy I haven't been able to get it planted. It's flowers and stems are drooping. The leaves are strong and firm. I'm planting it into my porch container today on the south side. I decided that I will have other plants around the perimeter of my porch to make some shade for it. Prayers.

We are still getting sporadic snow (a few inches each storm) but my hellebores order came in. Should I keep them on the porch until final frost of take advantage of our warmer days and get them planted even though we will get more snow/frost in the coming weeks? Our final frost isnt until Mothers Day. zone 8a

I worked at Gethsemane Gardens in Greensboro, NC where the owner (Janice Nickolson) grows thousands of hellebores in the woods. She said that people in England cut all the leaves away in the fall and just the blooms come up in spring. I have never tried it, but I think it is a neat idea if I remember to do it.

Thank you so much for posting! Your videos always make me what to get up and go garden haha. do you have any recommendations for potted flowers that do well in shade? I am wanting to plant up some planters in my porch, but they would get little to no direct sun. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I love your videos. You make everything so easy to see and understand. I would love to know when you are doing all these things so I can identify when is the best time to plant, transplant, and clean up all my plants. Tags do not give enough information! Thank you for teaching me! :) happy planting!

Help! I have always wanted to grow hellebores, but I struggle with knowing what kind of conditions they like. sun or shade, how much water. I would really like to identify a spot in my garden where they would be happy, preferably someplace that we walk past even in cooler months.

Please don't use artificial fertilizers to grow decorative plants.
Feed the soil with compost or well rotted manure or mulch the soil.
Get a sense of proportion, dont damage the planet to make it pretty.
I am a professional decorative horticulturist btw.

If your Happy Jack Clematis is anything like mine it will outgrow that pot & definately need a way bigger trellis that that. I have mine in a 6ft trellis & it over takes it every year & grows way up into our eaves.
I Hellebores!
