Barn & Root Cellar Update + Boxwood Trimming! Garden Answer Sandy: Hi Laura! I LOVE that area so much, it is my favorite! I'm so glad you didn't turn the boxwoods into a hedge. They look so pretty in a sphere and IMO, I think the hedge would have looked out of place. The urns turned out so pretty, too! I love the yellow petunias added for color. Your plans to make it easier for Benjamin to walk by the water feature is so sweet! I know I've said it before, but I'm really hoping you leave the gazebo just the way it is. It matches the pergola so well! The barn looks really good painted white with black accents. I'm anxious to see how it looks with the added door and the middle door centered and the lights added. It does match the chicken coop really well. I'm glad you're getting closer to getting the root cellar finished. Can't wait to see how you place everything. I really enjoy the show and tell parts of your video. We get to see a little bit of everything. Thank you so much for sharing!

I planted 30 Japanese Boxwoods late this summer. I live in Zone 8b. We have had 2 hurricanes that brought significant rain. Im pretty sure they are dying. The soil is so damp and it seems to never dry out. Some seem ok, but most are browning and look dead and fragile. I hate to lose them. It was a lot of work planting them and not cheap. They also have a weed guard around them. Should I remove it? Is there anything I can do to save them?

So many thoughts! I'm assuming that the root cellar racking is on casters. Consider placing the shelving units perpendicular to an exterior wall. You may have more work/storage space. Isn't it amazing what a little bit of garden clean up can produce! As you were discussing the boxwood spheres and the role they play, I was thinking, like lawn in a garden, they give the eye a place to rest. High 5, Sista!

Hi Laura! I was watching a garden tour from April of last year and you showed this same area and it looks sooooo different and just amazing to me. Have yall ever thought of just doing a video thats a montage of progression pictures of different areas and talking a little bit about what you did different over the seasons/years and why?

Hey Laura, I have enjoyed watching your little bump grow, we just had our 3rd baby and Im looking forward to how you guys adjust to another baby. My question is. Do you ever remove all the branches of virginia creeper once the leaves are off. Or do you treat them like a wisteria and just trim whatever is overgrown? Thanks.

I am in love with that water feature too! The sound is so beautiful and the sphere shaped boxwoods do add some nice structure - I'm glad you did that because I have been thinking of doing that and not sure how spheres in front of a variety of beautiful plants would look- now I know and I love it!

It's so fun to watch you and Aaron complete your projects. Your property Just keeps getting better and better! Will you paint the gazebo next to match the barn and the coop? Love the black and white theme. You have given me the courage to go ahead and trim my overgrown boxwoods. Thanks for the inspiration!

In order to keep track of your water level, how about putting something in that floats like a little boat or even a little ball. That way when it starts to touch the gravel, youll know to top it off. Im very glad you did say youre going to cover the gravel back over that plastic thing.

I live in NC and we have virginia creeper all over that we have been trying to get rid of. It is like poison ivy here. We can't touch it without gloves or long sleeves on. It gives us welts and it's horrible. Are there different types of virginia creeper?
