The Soil Was Frozen Solid (But We Got Our Pots Dressed Up For Christmas Anyway! Barb: Laura, thanks for the tips on planting Christmas pots. I had looked everywhere for red twigs at crafts stores but found nothing. I had at one point entertained the ideal of spray painting twigs but didn't want to get into too much expense. I had remembered noticing some red dogwood bushes near our house, so I went and clipped a few branches on my dog walk. My planters don't look as full and pretty as yours, I might have to spend some time tweaking them a bit more. Thank you for all your hard work/ideals.

I really didnt think I was going to like them as much as I do. They are beautiful and my first thought of thinking that it was overboard has left my mind. I also loved seeing the lights that are already up (as Aaron was walking up with the hot water) absolutely beautiful. Im sure you have answered this already, but are people able to see these your lights from the road, any tours for your neighbors? Dont worry, I live to far to cruise by.

I just love watching your videos. You have given me so much Ideas to do in my new garden. Especially when you talk about a winter garden with some Perennials/ shrubs. Doing winter annuals just gets expensive. Gardening has defenate has become my new stress reliver, hobby, and just enjoyment in my life. After this year we have had its been well received to have a outlet. thanks again to you and Aaron again.

Non sequitur to this video, but I would love to see a video on how you use an unheated greenhouse or high tunnel and what advantages it gives you. We are in a similar USDA zone in Michigan and we are currently building a small unheated greenhouse. Doesn't your high tunnel get just as cold as the outdoors at night? And if so how is it protecting the plants inside?

Beautiful work as always! I am way late decorating my urns, planters and lights. No tree yet either. It is just one of those years so much loss and I lost a close family friend around the holidays and not quite right yet and I need a boost and this has helped some. Thank you for all you do and 8 months pregnant. You are amazing!

So gorgeous, love your winter arrangements, but have to wonder, here in Alberta Canada if you leave the cement, ceramic, plastic pots outside and leave water in them they will fore sure break as the ice expands. I'm thinking you don't have the same issues in Oregon, is this the case?

Those are so pretty! You putting the water in the pots with your bulbs made me think of a question. How often, if at all, do you need to water bulbs in pots that are outside for winter? I have some tulip bulbs in pots for the first time ever and I live in NC in a zone 7b/8a

People. Please stop acting like pregnancy is a handicap. Pregnancy is not debilitating unless there are issues. Women are born with the ability to carry children and if it was such a handicap like you all make it seem, no one would have babies.

Laura you mentioned the evergreens providing protection from the squirrels, but how do the bulbs fair throughout the cold temps? With the bulbs being in pots vs the ground all winter will the colder and frozen soil effect their ability to bloom?

I heard a floral designer suggest shredded mulch. Less weight when frozen, and if you don't have access to soil, it's great. So this year I'm trying the mulch route, and it's working out so well. Should also thaw out quicker in the spring.
