Mistakes were Made! Starting Over with a Hedge of Hydrangeas!
video description
There are four commonly used chelates: citric acid, EDTA (Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid, DTPA (Diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid) and EDDHA (Ethylenediamine di(o-hydroxyphenylacetic acid. .. . Citric acid does not strongly bond with iron and is not effective at pHs above 6. 0. EDTA strongly holds iron in solution up to pH 6. 0, but by pH 6. 5, almost one-half the iron is precipitated, and by pH 7. 0, almost none of the iron is available to plants. DTPA is an excellent iron source up to media pH 7. 0; however, 60 percent of the iron is precipitated and unavailable by pH 8. 0. EDDHA is the strongest chelate of any of the commonly used materials and maintains iron availability to plants past pH 9. 0.

Can you please tell my hubby that gardening is not a one and done sort of hobby? We had to take a rose out of it's spot to allow the gas company to dig a trench to put in a new meter. She stayed in a pot for a couple weeks but still thrived. We planted it and now I want it moved a little because we didn't know at the time that I would decide to plant lavender in front of it. this is your fault! lol When I saw the PW lavender you planted in a hedge, I HAD to have some. I bought lavender augustifolia Hidcote because of the intense color. I've never grown lavender so, hope they love it here.

Thank you for sharing the successes, as well as the trials and tribulations of your garden. It's so helpful to listen to how you troubleshoot the issues that come up in your garden because they inevitably come up in many of our gardens as well. Question - hydrangeas seem quite resilient. Could they be moved to a different spot to see if they would rebound, maybe not this year but perhaps next year? Or were they just beyond that point? I can't wait to try the little lime punch! We're building a new house that will be done later this year. These will be perfect to plant next spring!

Thank you for showing us your mistakes, cause basically most of my gardening experience is mistakes, and I would give up. Since I have been watching your videos last summer, I am braving gardening again, and have learned SO MUCH FROM YOU! Thank you! I love your cheerful demeanor, even during gardening adversity. Keep up the good work, bringing plant lovers back to gardening with a little less fear of failure. Cause apparently, failure is part of gardening (just like in life, haha) gotta keep on keepin' on

Video suggestion: Hydrangea paniculata spacing!
I know there are many different varieties but I would love to hear your explanation for spacing at 36 for a hedge. I'm in the process of putting in a hydrangea pan. hedge with different varieties including (but not limited to) Pinky Winky, Limelight Prime, Pinky Winky, and Zinfin Doll. I've already found room for the Little Lime Punch. I'm trying to figure out a good spacing technique so I can calculate the variables between the varieties.

I love the process of finding the perfect spot for my plants. It's so satisfying to move something that is not doing well and then watch it thrive in a new location. I'm having trouble finding something that will do well on the north, northwest border around my house to line the sidewalk. The sun just fries so many things I plant. It's not deep enough for large shrubs, but I'd love some ground cover and flower/ small shrub combos that will do well there. Any suggestions?

A tape measure? Lol Such a bummer to have to pull the hydrangeas out, but great opportunity to try something new. Question for you; what about trying IFA BOUNTIFUL EARTH HUMATE soil conditioner? It helps with so many issues in the soil and also neutralizing ph. We are in Utah zone 7a and we have used this for years in the soil and the lawn and have seen such improvements. Can't wait to see the beautiful color of the new hedge. Amazing color!

Hi Laura all ours plants are in Pots. How often would you water them in Pots per week x we bought 4 HL ans HP last year, they were quite small when they arrived last year. They are doing quite well, with small buds on the end which we are pleased to see. Ours grow 4 to 5ft. I would imagine itn takes a few years for them to get that tall. We look forward to the journey of them all. Love to you all x

Absolutely love you show when things don't work out, and when your troubleshooting doesn't fix the problem. There are so many variables in the garden, and this demonstrates it perfectly. I've had some amazing luck with things I didn't expect to work, and some terrible luck with things I thought would do really well. Trial and error teaches so much in the garden.
