Planting A Wichita Blue Juniper and Blue Blazes Hyssop!
video description
My question is in regards to zoysia grass. I am highly considering placing an order for some plugs to start filling in my yard. I know it takes a few seasons to fill in, but I think it may be worth it. I have been battling weeds, water grass and creeping charlie to exhaustion. I have tried so many sprays over the last few years without much luck. The only solution to rid my yard of the creeping charlie seems to be to move to a new yard! Nothing touches it!
We have 2 acres, so hand pulling is not really an option. I have never been crazy about spraying but I feel like there was not much hope otherwise.
I have read that zoysia grass chokes out weeds and other grasses, do you think that is true for creeping charlie as well?
What are your overall thoughts on zoysia grass? I can't recall you ever talking about it. Does it have something to do with them not being able to ship to Oregon? If so, why not? Any advice would be much appreciated!

This place is huge and beautiful with all those breathtaking gardens. But I was just wonderingI used to live like that ( on 24 acres )and I couldnt last more than 4 years, )it was so beautiful and so lonely at the same time. Acreage properties are a double sword. When kids became teenagers we had to move to town they could not take the solitude and often times would slip into depression.
I was wondering how other ppl take the loneliness that comes with large properties.
I am glad in your case you have your mom and family close by, keep sanity level in check. We had nobody. These places are not for everybody and if someone wishes to live on large property sometimes you have to be careful what to wish for.

As someone with beautiful mature trees that are nearing 100 years old, I have extreme anxiety from all of the trees being planted. Im currently in the trees stage in life to consider cutting down the trees because of their age and weakness. Three GIANT maples are going to cost a fortune to get removed and I have too much shade for my gardens. So seeing all of this shade or future shade created in Lauras gardens makes me bummed out, but also excited because I love trees.

I am thinking that the cross in the middle of the cut flower garden should be brick while the outside of the cut flower garden and the pathway would be grass. You have brick edging everywhere. It would look polished, and a fountain would look awesome. Just as you have planned. The dark mulch somehow does not work next to the green grass that is growing, but I think the wood chips works around the trees. You have completed so many projects. You should be so proud.

I love your planting videos! The more the better! I like learning about different plants and I like learning about things you might not see on the tag, like todays plants can survive in colder areas of the garden and that this particular juniper wont bronze with heat or cold stress. I love how the pathways are greening up as the grass grows in. It looks like a ribbon running through the beds. It is going to be so gorgeous!

I love, love love the drone footage. It's really helpful for perspective of an entire area. For instance, I have watched every video about the Hartley yet I am not entirely sure where it is on your property. Might be a good idea to put a thumbnail of a drone shot in a corner of any video just so we can figure out where you are. Thank you for everything you share!

Hi Laura and Aaron! I LOVE the Wichita Blue Juniper and the Blue Blazes Hyssop are really pretty, and will be a nice contrast to the daylilies. I really enjoy seeing you plant new things on the new property. It's coming along nicely and the new grass is looking really good. Aaron, thank you so much for doing the drone shots! Thank you both so much for sharing!

I love it when Laura and Aaron go nursery hopping - and I love watching their planting videos! You can tell that Cheddar and Russell love Laura so much, always popping up in the videos and clambering for more of her attention. With GA, I have begun to have so much more pride in my garden beds! I think it's time I go nursery hopping too!

Once the trees start to gain more growth and the roads and the meadow etc. are put into their places, the whole property is gonna look so lively and irresistible. The process will take time but it will be all worth it. That's what I'm thinking while seeing the last aerial shots. Things are really getting into shape, so cool!
