I haven't grown roses for many years yet, but ny current favorite is Garden Party. It was just a little bodybag rose from aldi for $6 and it thrived and put up really fragrant blooms that you can smell across the garden. Plus beautiful pink buds that open to a creamy white with hints of gold and pink. Last season was difficult for it though and I'm not sure it hasn't died back to its rootstock after the hard winter. I have some David Austin varieties now, too, so those are exciting but there's something about being surprised by a rose that cost less than a hamburger! Also it is more fragrant than my DA roses, which I was not expecting since I bought all high fragrance varieties.

We have visited the Biltmore many times over the past 20 years that we have lived in North Carolina. It's stunning in any season but especially at Christmas time. The conservatory is absolutely breathtaking and the gardens are still lovely in their winter structure along with cold weather annuals. The pansies and snapdragons that you mentioned in the annual beds would have been left over from last fall planting. Those are winter annuals for us and cannot take our summer heat and humidity. Yes, these will be swapped out for summer annuals like lantana, vinca, etc. Put it on your list to visit during the Candlelight Christmas season!

I love, love Biltmore! I have been there twice and would love to go back. That rose garden took my breath away. I don’t understand how they have such lovely roses with Japanese beetles around. I love the old cabbage type roses. The fragrance of those old roses cannot be matched. I am with you on the walled garden in England. I have dreams about having a cottage in England with a walled garden. Maybe we can be neighbors. I cannot pick a favorite rose. It’s like trying to pick a favorite child. I love your husbands names for the flowers. When my daughter was little she called nasturtiums. nasty urchins

I'm so glad you and your family enjoyed Biltmore! I guessed correctly when you mentioned that you were going to visit a garden in NC in your last video. I love the style of the house and most of the gardens, but I agree with you about too many geometric patterns in certain areas of the garden not being my favorite. Living here in western NC, we try to visit Biltmore often during different seasons, and I never get tired of exploring the beautiful library and the many other rooms of the house. Wasn't the swimming pool and bowling alley inside the house interesting

This has been on my bucket list for years as well! Great time to visit with all the roses in bloom. Roses are my favorite and though it is a challenge to grow them well here in the mountains, I still try. My husband and I love visiting these iconic historic homes and their gardens. My favorite Iris are the one that is in bloom at the moment. I have always wanted a walled garden as well, but I will stay in California for the climate. You would absolutely love Butchart Gardens, you must put it on your bucket list.

I grow David Austin roses in my garden. Desdemona is a David Austin shrub rose. It is a lovely ivory with a hint of soft yellow. But it's her fragrance that made me fall in love with her. I have several of them because I love her so much! My mama and my Nana (who came from the UK ) grew many roses. I think I fell in love with them when I was a little girl. Soft colored roses are my favorite--ivory, soft yellow, and pastel pinks.

How exciting that you got to go to the Biltmore what a gorgeous Mansion and Gardens!
The roses were spectacular totally loved that color of pink! Inside the home was amazing! Could you imagine having that kind of money! I think life is much better being just a middle class family not so complicated and demanding!
Thank you so much for the wonderful video everything was breathtaking! Jill

Hi Danielle! Beautiful tour, thank you. I have 2 Perfume Breeze rambling roses that are so delicate panicle type blooms and just stunning! Highly recommend! The rambler rose you loved that was pink is very similar to Perfume Breeze but my blooms are smaller! I grow 2 on trellises and I’m in love with them and highly fragrant! I posted some pics on my IG.

Love that you came to The Biltmore - It is spectacular in Spring! Love all the irises, but German bearded are my faves. And those tangerine colored ones are lovely. Roses are harder here in NC, with Japanese beetles, but Biltmore has the most stunning rose garden I've ever seen. So glad you were able to visit this one-of-a-kind garden and magnificent home!

What a beautiful house and gardens In England we are fortunate to have many many houses like this owned by the National Trust who takes care of the old building and gardens. Have a look at Tyntesfield’ it is very similar in style to this house, the kitchen garden at Tyntesfield is one of a kind! Just stunning

I've visited The Biltmore many times. The land, tranquility and just the grandeur of it all is absolutely amazing! The gardens are breathtaking in every season The library is my favorite room in the home. It's just an amazingly beautiful place that everyone should experience at least once in life.

Every time I bring in fresh flowers I bring in bugs. I much prefer faux arrangements and leave my fresh flowers outside for the pollinators. That’s just me though. I do adore bearded Iris. There are so many unique ones out there nowadays.

Nice! I have 3 David Austin’s and they have been very hard to keep happy. Looking forward to getting ideas for a disease resistant rose in our 6b gardens. Bearded iris are not eaten but the Siberian iris are eaten to the foliage by bunnies.

Oh Danielle, you were in my neck of the woods! I’m in Weaverville just north of Asheville. We love the Biltmore estate and have season passes. I could walk through those gardens everyday and see something new each time. Love this!

I have given up on roses. I am not good with these and the diseases are too much for me in the 6a zone eastern Wa. area. however one that has every year performed with purple beauty and fragrance never fails is Ebb Tide.

Beautiful irises. At one time i had around 56 different species. I divided them one late summer with the help from my husband and son. That winter was a particularly cold and wet and lost all but 5. I still love them.
