Man, I love crayfish.
I think that it tends to get overlooked (especially in Ontario, but then again, lobster had that reputation years back, as well.
Crayfish is certainly enjoyed in every European country (including my country of birth) - particularly as a complement to beer!
I recall going camping with my parents to lake Simcoe when I was 15 (I'm nearly in my mid thirties now, and one night, walking along a docking area, I caught a glimpse of crayfish in the water with my flashlight.
A good friend of my parents taught me how to catch them, right then and there.
We didn't use traps, but the method we used produced great results, just the same.
We had fishing gear in the car, including landing nets for pulling fish out.
We worked as a team.
One of us would carefully place the net in the water without producing too many ripples in the water, and would move it in behind the crayfish.
The other person, would scare the crayfish from the front by placing a stick in the water in front of it.
Because crayfish swim backwards, they would swim right into the net.
Then, it's just a matter of pulling those bad boys out.
They tend to be more active at night, so we spent the better part of the night fishing for them.
I recall pulling out 150 of those suckers that night, and my mom boiled them in a big pot in the morning with some black pepper corns and bay leaves.
Dude, talk about good eatin'!
We didn't have to go far. They were all hanging out in that little harbour.
Man, this is making me inspired, and hungry!

Lol! Hi ya WB! I saw the crawdads/crayfish/mud bugs and thought it was a video that I missed that u made when n Texas w/ Bob. But nope, I-ve already seen this one but what the hey (okie expression) I-ll watch it again, maybe next time use Bobs secret ingredient. dog food. Love u WB (like a son, I-m 57, BUT I am in love on what I learn from u) tell ur wife and Holden hello, y-all r like family to me, just as Bob, Shauna, Bri. Lonnie/Connie (far north bush craft and survival) r like family to me. (All I have is my son, no friends do to I can-t stand lies cheats an thieves, Lol, 57 yrs worth of them, so I chose to be alone) maybe u didn-t want to hear that, but seeing how I talk well comment u and ask lots of questions, u should know a little about me. Sry I don-t know ur wife-s name, I-ve not heard it enough for it to be implanted n my brain. Thank u

Hi ya WB! Sweet traps, I praise u 4 praising Bob, the both of r great n my eyes! There is a difference on how u and Bob show ur skills and knowledge oppose to others, u both have good hearts, that-s my opinion. I-ve only seen one video that y-all did, I know u said n one video that Bob was on vac and ur working on yours that u did n Texas, it is said, patients is a virtue, brash, I-ve got ants n my pants -Lol, can-t wait to see them, I know they will be great! Right on man, that's a neat trap design. I use minnow traps often in the spring, and then leading up to ice fishing season. Minnows are 6-9 bucks a dozen here, gets expensive buying 2-3 dozen every time you go. Aside from the survival aspects, the minnow trap can save ya a couple of dollars too. Nicely done WB! I have a glass trap for minnows and mesh for craws! Seams catching minnows in mesh the bread just floats out all the holes vs glass just one hole current is where it is at catching them! I will never buy bait have not in years, I have better luck on the bait I caught anyways! Great build money saver indeed!

Crazy man but I literally didnt have pipe and used to make traps handmade so I made a 4 funnel out of Bob's design and looked up 4 funnel crawfish trap and found yours. Great minds think a like mine looked identical to yours. Except you have 3. If I could post a photo I would.

I have always called em crawdads. I remember as a child in Texas catching a large one in a creek by hand. She had a boat load of babies tucked under her curled up tail. BTW crawdads are easy to catch and delicious
