Managing to find a short spell in the bad weather we have been having I took a chance on a shore fishing trip for an Undulate Ray and it paid off brilliantly. Fishing a South Coast beach with my good friend Alan Brown the session was cut short by the dangerous seas but it was worth it! Here is the link to my Pulley Rig tutorial and some link for the tackle I use

The only night fishing I've done was with guys who were using those little glow sticks tied to their rod tips somehow, that let them see when they had a bite. When I was down in Morecambe trying to watch people fishing, when I was a kid still dreaming about getting a rod and it was blowing and raining, I saw men sitting in their motor cars with their rods just stood up unattended, when I knocked on a car window to ask how they were going to know when they had a bite, they said to take a look at the tips of their rods. When I did, I saw that they had one of those little clothes pegs with the springs on them and a little spring coming off that with a bell like you'd get on a cat's collar. That would ring when they got a bite and let them know, I thought that was brilliant.

Great to see you back on the shore John. I just want to say during these strange times the fish locker team and yourself have given me inspiration to start sea fishing myself. I have also been fortunate enough to catch 2 Undulate rays the best being 10. 1/2 pounds off stokes Bay Gosport, would send a picture but don't know how. Sadly missed out on any smoothounds though. (There's always next year. )
This brings me to my question, I have recently brought a boat too and was wondering what rod and real combos you would recommend, one for float and drifting for Bass and Pollock and one for Conger and Ling. Preferably fixed spools as I have had no experience with multipliers.
Keep doing what you're doing it's all great. Thanks.

Great video John
90%of my sea angling is off the beach at night, and it can test the mind more often than not
As long as you can get out of the wind and rain, sleet, snow its tolerable for a few hours
Fresh bait is the biggest issue for me, not able to dig for more than about 10 minutes, then everything hurts, im just knackered sweatingout of breath,
Heart trouble, no stamina anymore, park close to beach and stay away from steep hills or embankments, usual old man stuff hahaha im only 62 should be out jogging 4 times aweek
or in the swimmers 4 times, to much like hard wok, rather watch you do the hard stuff and i'll sit with a brew.
Good luck with next video, regards to family all stay safe.

Hey John,
Lovely hands-on video like usual. I reckon a session like that needs quite a bit of preparation. You probably explained every little item you brought, great job!
We don't have these beaches with pebbles in the Netherlands, therefore always sandy conditions.
No Cornwall fishing for me for a while, but since my boat is only 15 ft, I use it for Pike fishing at the moment and that's going well.
The best of luck with fishing and fouraging and I hope imposed lockdowns won't stop you from going out there.

Hi John,
Great video as always, love cute dog fish and big skates.
I am amateur in fishing, primary fresh water lake, ponds in Canada. Just interested to learn the difference between fresh and marine.
Can you explain the rig difference between a fresh water fishing vs marine fishing. The pulling rig that you have used in this video seems heavier and has a lot of add-ons. How often do you get snags in the seaweed, with many extended extrusion.
Cheers

Hi John I think your videos are fantastic full stop. I fish from the beach and I was just a bit worried that it seemed like you chucked the old bait away with the bail elastic still wrapped around it? I-m probly wrong but just wanted to check that-s not what you do? I-m sure I got it wrong! Best wishes Bill W

Love your work mate!
I'm not particularly familiar with these shores as I've only salt water fished back in South Africa.
I've recently moved over and now live up near Workington so all the info you share, I'm putting to good use!
Actually going out for a session now. Will edit if I come right!

Nice one John! Great to see Mr Fishlocker out on the beach, instead of the 'Bowat'! -- Well done on the 12Lb undulate - good catch! Beautiful looking Fish. Alan seems like a great guy too - look forward to seeing more of the two of you together. Thanks, and stay safe & well. --

I catch a lot of rays about that size on my tailor (bluefish) rig here in Australia, I need to film it.
No good keeping the rays here though, tried it once and I didn't like the taste (or I cooked it badly, and in hindsight I am not even sure if it's legal here.
