We have had a wonderful year working our homemade lobster pots with some fantastic catches of Crabs and Lobsters. Even some surprise captures thrown in along the way. Here are the last 2 hauls and as the inshore season is coming to an end, I bring the pots ashore for Winter

I didn't know you went lobster potting aswell, I don't know where you get the energy lol -
I just thought I'd comment cuz I got out fishing end of last week and I used a collapsible bait pot my brother gave me and its the only thing that caught anything apart from a velvet swimmer crab that took a floating mackerel bait which is a first for me, the rig was set about 10ft off the bottom on the rising tide, anyway in the bait pot I got a big common shore crab with an orange underside.
Give it 4 to 8 weeks and that bait pot will be full of crab shrimp and small bait fish now I know it works cuz I know a few spots off the pier where I've been at low tide looking for bait and theirs big gaps that go back under the bottom of the pier a good few ft so I'll be dropping the pot right on those next time.

Thanks for the pot tutorial. I have my NE IFCA license for 10, but will be dropping at low tide from shore and 2 or 3 builds is my goal for next season.
I notice a deal on fisheries is close with the EU on withdrawal. None of us have seen the detail but it looks like 20-60% repatriation payments from EU trawlers in British waters.
Does this do more for the treasury than UK fishing communities in your opinion?
I guess we need to see the detail, but there looks like movement on quotas and I wonder whether our illustrious leaders will make provision within that quota for the hobby gut or the sole trader?
-guy not gut
Freudian slip lol xx

Yeah it's a shame people do Rob pots my brother lost 3 or 4 last year and he only had a hobby licence so 5 was maximum he could put out and he put em very close in shore not on a string as the area is way too snaggy and he only has a ting little boat so just 5 pots placed over about 250 yards and someone must have been very keen to find em cuz he had em with dark blue almost black buoys and they were all placed at the mouth of a gully and like I say 3 or 4 gone, he said he'd not mind as much if they'd just been empty but someone took everything and as you know it's all Time and money making pots and putting em out, it's a real shame

Hi, I absolultlley love to watch mainly when you are diving I am always amazed at how long you can hold your breath and I am aways very surprized at just what you catch in your crab and lobster pots. If the season for crabs and lobsters is over can you stil catch them at the shore or do you throw them back too many thanks for everything you do I will be waiting for you when you are back thank you for everything Debbie not David xxxxx

Hello again from Oz, I always look forward to your videos John, sadly pot thefts happen here often as well. I once found my pots approx 1km from where they were set & it was calm weather so no rough seas to blame. Already looking forward to see what you achieve next year have a great xmas & above all, you & the family stay safe.
All the best for 2021 mate -----

Hope this wind drops down before Christmas as I want to get my pots in. Both lobster and whelk. I never put dan/ buffs/ floats on anymore as some got cut off, so I lay them daisy chained East /West on my GPS numbers, and recover them by grapelling North / South. Never lost any since. Thanks for all this years videos. Stay safe.

Hi John. Great video again. Couple of things, I had buoyancy issues with my pots when I made them, had heavy weights to get them to sink, have you had issues with this? Also, what are you looking for on chart for good lobster/brown crab ground, are you going around the bottom of reefs? Cheers. Ewen

In a world so fraught with negativity, violence and cruelty, to see you always being positive despite the ups and downs is hugely encouraging and exceedingly appreciated. May your smile always weather the storm John, to sunny days, calm seas and well-earned bounties!

Spent 20 years fishing lobster off the south coast of Long Island, New York, USA. 800 pots, rigged on 20 pot strings. Pulled 20 strings a day =400 pots. During high season averaged a pound a pot of keepers on a 3-4 day soak.
