In this episode of Field Trips: West Coast, I'm meeting up with Kevin Nakada from Hobie to go kayak fishing on a LEGENDARY SoCal fishery: La Jolla. Producing kayak fishing legends like Kevin and Jim Sammons, La Jolla earned its nickname The Jewel because of its beauty and knack for producing trophy fish just a short paddle from the beach. We'll be targeting one of the strongest fighting fish on the west coast: California yellowtail. Watch until the end for a preview at episode 3!

dude! I was born and raised in cali and you passed awesome fishing in san clemente just south of dana point actually next town south of dana point. fish about 100 yards out from the end of the pier there is a nice rock reef with lots of sheephead and calico bass sand bass run very large, also the halibut are larger here than dana point. before storms removed the end half of the pier you could hit this reef easily, they doubtfully will never build the pier out to its original length sad for die hard pier fisherman. Then there is the san onofre nuke plant just before oceanside, a great place for huge halibut due to the warm water from the plant. san clemente also has a state beach with a totally awesome state campground. the only thing I miss about cali is the ocean fishing in southern cali. also san clem is only 70 miles from the baha border undeniably the best fishing I have ever experienced on both sides of the peninsula all the way down to la paz! baha would definitly be for a series all of its own! Fish on! and keep up with your great videos!

You've got balls, I know what's in those waters, I lived there while serving in Navy, would go to the cove and the seal lions would be 20 feet away from me on their side of the beach. There also used to be a leopard shark that hung out right in the cove and would come right up to you in the water while diving, within touching distance, not ta mention the rocks. You're out in the water further away but near the shore alot of rough necking going on with sharks and people. I knew a girl who was killed probably from a great white they found her surfboard in pieces, it wasn't a great way to die. Still went out though. Love that area, great video, omg there some good eating in those waters.

I'm active duty and was based on San Clemente Island off the coast. Caught a similar sized Yellow fin off the rocks on the island last year. Best 1 hour fight of my life!

I know Robert posts all the links to gear but I genuinely couldnt find details on the brand and model/specs on the kayak itself that you use. Help a brother out?
