Is Cord Cutting Actually Cheaper Than Cable The big problem for cable companies is all the equipment. Most people today can get their content on a smart phone and use WiFi to push that content to tv with a Chromecast or similar device. Simple. If you prefer cable just get a full tv and internet package where they bring the content into the home via the modem. Tell them you dont want tv boxes. You can stream their content to your mobile devices and cast it to your tv. This will save you some money. Otherwise cutting the cord makes sense providing you can get a decent price on internet through another company. The cost of the inet is the key, because just getting internet only through your cable co will result in higher prices since youre not getting their TV and phone. And in some areas there are simply not many alternatives for internet.\r\n

I am an old geezer probably much like your parents. I am kind of a techy though so I compared everything and after my last Comcast bill showed $175 per month I had enough.
I found out that TMO had a sweet deal of $10 off each month for 12 months on YTTV. I told my wife we would save about $70 a month the first year and then $60 a month going forward after that. She was sold.
I showed her the YTTV interface and she said okay after we compared the video of Comcast with YTTV.
A year ago I might not have done this as the cable bill seemed okay. Another $22 took me over the edge.
So long Comcast. I'm glad I knew you, but hello YTTV.

Tried T-Mobile wireless high speed gateway. for internet ONLY. Speeds seemed to vary from 16 to 80 to 115 mbps. X-box seemed to glitch big time. WIFI to cell phones seemed to be sporadic. I have a very small house so distance shouldn't be the issue. The signal from whatever tower the signal was coming from was reading LOW - not the lowest reading, but LOW. I was trying to get rid of Xfinity for cost reasons but unfortunately didn't seem to meet my expectations. Anyone give me some input with this situation

Instead of wasting money on cable I pay $50 for Internet no data cap in another $30 for three different streaming services, The money I save helps me pay for my Tesla, when you give this much money to Comcast you’re helping them, Love the government to make it less user-friendly and more expensive for everyone, you are not only screwing yourself but everyone else to, being for HD it’s like being for clean glasses at the restaurant additional charge, as long as they are pig’s they will be butchers,

Here in my country they sell single screen subscriptions for very VERY cheap prices, i pay 3$ for netflix, 1.5$ for Disney Plus, 1.5 for Star Plus, 2 (yes 2!) for Hbo Max and 2 for Crunchiroll i dont need anithing else, i dont watch sports neither does my wife and my kid is only 3 so he doesnt count , for a 2 adult house with a 80mbps connection is far more than enough

This guy is only telling you part of the truth, which is the way things seem to work today. Do your own research about the cheapest way to watch what you want. Either way, everyone is being cheated because of the lack choice. Only a few companies have control of everything in this country, which lets them raise prices to whatever they want, and you pay for it.

I think his example shows that if you want more than bare bones, cable is cheaper. If you want just the bare minimum then buying internet and streaming is cheaper than getting the lowest cable package. So if cost is the main concern go bare bones. If content and higher speeds of internet are the main concerns, go with a bundle from a cable company.

I got one better for you get the super box and you’ll never have to deal with either one of those situations other than just getting Internet service that’s it and then you won’t have to worry about dealing with cable just go with the streaming services and it’s already been taken care of you’ll never have to deal with it again
reply

The problem with the streaming option (and you didn’t mention this) is that the high speed internet is extra. And as much as the service itself (!)) The cable/satellite services provide the internet at reduced cost when bundled. You’ll still need them when streaming with a different provider and that cost has to be added in.

How can I get ESPN while using streaming services. I dont want to go to u-tube or high runners but is there any way of getting ESPN only, no, not the ESPN that's got nothing I want to watch... my watch likes are F1 motor racing and Motor cycle racing. Any ideas
Good show bye the way, keep it up... john R

cheaper or no... the god damn commercials are nuts... i went to up my speed and it was $4 more a month to get the cable and home phone package so i tried it... every god damn time i try to watch cable tv the commercials baffle me... back to downloading... can't take it...

When I cancelled my cable TV some 5 years ago I bought a one time cost Roku Box and installed all the good free streaming apps that have come out. I pay $50 for my cable service and $0 on TV streaming. I've never gone over my data cap.

Unpopular opinion: I prefer satellite TV to streaming and cable. Cable TV is for super metropolitan areas only and streaming sucks with DSL. Don't get me started on Netflix originals.
Streaming is as much of a scam as cable TV.

reply

Streaming sucks. I'll keep my Cable. Cable is faster, no streaming, Internet speeds are the best. People claim they cut the Cord, then they go back for Internet. Opps. Then add Streaming. All the sudden their up to $100 / month.
reply

I just cut the cord recently. Got tired of paying $45/month for basic cable when I just bought an indoor antenna for free basic cable. Now I pay $34.99 for internet and $8.99 for Netflix. So happy I ripped up my final cable bill

If you want to use a service provider who is totally and constantly dishonest and deceptive AND who doesn't give a crap about you, then go with Xfinity or Direct TV. I like it simple. Apple TV or Amazon Fire Stick is DOPE!
reply

The streaming services might be cheaper on their own, but to be able to have streaming in the first place, you have to purchase internet from a separate provider. Shouldn't that cost be factored into the streaming cost
reply

On average its a lot cheaper like exponentially cheaper, but depending on your provider they may have packaged their cable where its cheaper in order to keep you drom cutting their services out of the picture
reply

Ilooked into cancelling my xfinity and just keeping my internet and it was still going to cost $107. per month then you add the you tube streeming and it only saved me $10.00 the big companies have us trapped.

Why are some people cutting the radio cord and switching to the new modern thing called books what next the horse that doesn't get tired this is a meanwhile in a parallel universe story I made it up
reply

Thanks for the very informative video. I’m 68 years old and I cut the cord about a year ago. I would never go back to regular TV ever again. It’s cheaper, better and has no commercials. Duh!
reply

Way cheaper to stream where I live. Plus no contracts or box rental fees. I've literally purchased new windows and doors for my entire house with what I saved over two years time.
reply

I realize this vid is about cost. But what about portability I watched 3 games last night on direct tv stream on 3 separate devices at the same time outside on my patio.
reply

Yes. Depending on your provider, find a provider that does internet only, like cincinati bell internet, high speed fiberoptics at a low price, i pay 70$ a month
reply

You can use free streaming services like pluto and tubi effectively dropping the price to nothing more than your internet bill. That's what my father does.
reply

I'm a senior, and ready to cut the cord. I'm paying too much money for over half the stuff I don't even watch. It's confusing as to what to get next...
reply

It is. Cause i don't pay for shit
No seriously people, read a frickin' book for crying out loud. They're free down at the library.

reply

Lmao this dude is hilarious with trying to persuade people in believing Cable is better than streaming. Please use your brain dude and stop.
reply

Anything is too much just to sit on your ass and watch the boob tube, TV is not necessary, if I can't get it for free I don't want it.
reply

Pluto TV and peacock TV is free cable. Data caps Get t-mobile and get unlimited hot spot if you can find anyone without a data cap.
reply

I got rid of Direct Tv. installed an antenna and a Roku could not be happier. brought a Tablo DVR
with no months fees

reply

The other problem is now you need multiple streaming services to get what Netflix gave you for $8 per month
reply

I think xfinity internet goes out on purpose to push us live TV watchers towards traditional cable.
