Pro tip, you don't need heavy weights to build muscle. Rather than trying to break the muscles, try burning them instead with lactic acid. The heavier weight you use the greater the risk of tears which will lose you all your gains while you're recovering. Instead melt the muscle fibres with acid, that will do more damage to the muscle faster and cause them to repair stronger every time. The trick is to allow enough time for them to repair before you get back at em. The older you are the longer it takes. The better your diet the shorter time it takes.
The term no pain no gain, comes more from the pain of a deep burn than from over exertion. If you're not screaming in pain at the end of every set, you're not growing. Oh, and eat plant protein rather than animal protein, plant protein has fibre and is much more easily absorbed so you don't have to eat as much.

They should change the name of the 'Farmer Walk'. I live in farmer-ville, and the majority of (especially) grain farmers these days are built like obese pigs, not tanks. Only working 2 months of the year and never getting off the chair of your tractor will do that. Manual labour? Not anymore. I'm glad you mentioned the trap bar as I find them very effective at building traps, even just using it to shrug. I'm also glad you left out upright rows as all they do is destroy your shoulders.

Pick up a Dumbell keep ur arm straight or perpendicular and raise it up over ur 180 degrees- this gives u traps don-t do this bend angle with ur arms. that focuses only on shoulders not traps! 2 completely different muscle groups that r still confused to this day! Shoulders - arm should be bent 90 degrees n raised 90 degrees and traps - Arm Straight then raise Dumbell 180 degrees- should reach top of ur over head than back down to the thigh-

my traps grow when im drinking a beer on the weekends, dont know why but since i was 15yrs old my traps started over powering the rest of my physique. i love to do an exercise thats a mix between a upright row and a shrug, i put a fairly heavy weight on bar and yank it as high as i can(lower chest) and then fight it down, my grip is shoulder width. my traps grew even freakier when i added them in

Before you do ANY SHRUGS! Each person has to know their body. If you have WIDE shoulder structure, you should lean towards a narrower grip. If you have a NARROW shoulder structure you should lean towards a WIDER grip. SOOO! many guys have that '' TENT '' look from having done TOO MANY shrugs from a too narrow grip. You want to have more of a SQUARED look as opposed to a ROUNDED look.

Traps definitely add a dimension to physique that get you noticed. A buddy of mine started lifting about a year before me. I made a point to target my traps and now I get noticed ( damn dude you been working out) a lot more than him.

I attribute my large traps from the standing calf raise machine. instead of building the calves I hold on to the machine and do shrugs with 395lbs.
I never liked how trap exercises are dependent upon your grip strength.

Behind the back shrugs on a Smith Rack.
If you-re like me, and you can-t get the -feel- of any kind of shrug, this exercise forces the traps to do the work.
Use an inside the shoulders grip.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong. Traps seem to be a pulling vs pushing so should it be done on back day vs shoulder day? What have you found to be the best as far as back vs shoulder day?
