What I like about you Ryan - and what I-ve done most of my life - and what you emphasize and motivate me to continue - is BURN OUT sets. Just go to complete exhaustion. I sometimes do legs and after a burnout set I literally feel like I-m gonna black out (not quite) and I need to / want to hold onto something and BREATHE deep - 4 seconds in, 2 second hold, 3-4 seconds out. I sometimes need 90 seconds of just breathing before I can move on in my workout. In this video after your burnout you had a bit of a hard time talking. I KNOW you did the burnout! I don-t know how long you went after that set before you hit Record on the camera but it was evident you still were gettin after it. I see so many guys in the gym who probably are in the gym for an hour but their actual time under tension is minimal. They do quick and fast reps and just 3 sets and move on. Better than nothing. But not for growth. I like walking out of the gym maybe 40 min later and am completely DONE stick a fork in me. Thanks Ryan. You do help me to get after it.

Freshman and sophomore years in highschool (2001-03 ish) I was a powerlifter. Best I did was 525. Required to use the belt even in lighter reps. No straps allowed. Had to be reversed grip. Coaches were strict about it. If we could have had this kind of honest training that could build you up and work more that just what would count at a lifting meet, I full believe not only would I have stuck with it through senior year (and made 600) but the team would have improved greatly. You really explain why you do what you do in an honest and understandable way. Good on you big man. Keep it coming!

Sorry I have got to totally disagree with you about the Technical lifting aspects of the dead lift. You can say as you want, you are not doing a dead lift. You are 100percent are doing good mornings. Torn Bicep? From dead-s? Can happen, but doubtful. so not a good of reason to use straps. you are losing so much by using straps. Dude I got years on years of lifting. I have move some good weight in my time and what you are teaching is not a deadlift. absolutely drive with your thighs 100%, to say not to drive with your thighs is totally wrong. You definitely got this misconstrued

Dude love the sarcasm. I do have a question. I totally destroyed my left ankle 23 years ago (shattered it from about a 5 foot fall ) had surgery. Lots of metal in there now. I really want to do deadlifts. But my ankle only flexes so much (yes I walk with a noticeable limp) some days worse than others. What I-m asking is any suggestions. I don-t do as much leg as I should because of this injury. What do you think. BTW your videos are great. Thanks.

Thanks for the knees tip, I am currently platooed at 475, can't quite get 485 up more then an inch or two before I decide to drop it (if it doesn't feel good I don't go for it. I will try adding the knee technique to the motion. I did a widowmaker a couple weeks ago, not knowing that was the term. Dropped to 315 for a set of 10 and wow did that knock the wind out of me, I had to cut my leg day in half from that!

1: 46 if you actually do ankle and butt mobility work you can come down and not have to go all bow legged out like that. You are losing so much power on the deadlift doing it your way.
Stretch stretch and mobilize. Then deadlifts become a piece of cake. You lift up like a baby straight up. Your max will feel like 60% and will fly up. but you add 5 pounds and it won't budge.

Wow. Thanks for reminding me of where my form once was. I tried to load up hips and keep my upper body back while keeping knees behind toes. Can see I was not using all my balance, etc. cheers. I probably should go light until I can get my head out of my ass with the form. Keeping my body back on descent is toughest at first attempts.

i always heard for naturals going mixed grip is safe and it would be rare to tear a bicep since your body will give before you can actually deadlift it off the floor, but juicers have strong muscles and can muscle up a deadlift with poor form, but their tendons dont adapt as quick as their muscles and hence tears occur for them.

What brand are those wrist wraps? I have an injury in my wrist so I would like those, also I get the feeling that you may have been in the service. But I could be wrong, that is a possibility here I must admit. Thank you for the videos sir, I salute you for getting me motivated again after multiple injuries I've sustained.

I agree with the wrist straps brother we intend to reach a certain age that tearing a muscle is not a fun thing to deal with. A am45 years now and I figured out that I can lighten the weight and get proper technique and do higher reps I can still reach my goals
