Ready for some pull-ups? I had a few questions about the type of pull-up variations I do as well as how to increase the number of reps you can do so I wanted to throw it all into one video. Couple of things to note. If you-re someone who can-t do any pull-ups and you-re following my advice on using bands to assist you at first then I would start with a close grip version. It will allow you to see progress faster since your lats are the prime movers

LOL your hilarious. Wanna know why Arnold did his t-bar rows and other various back workouts the way he did?
It's because he was fully lengthening the lats, his t-bar rows have more activation than anything you just showed.
Secondly, if you want to perform a pull up with the HIGHEST lat activation, you put your hands together, and perform a CHIN-UP with your hands literally humping next to each other. Feel the stretch on the negative, do you feel your lats? DO YOU FEEL YOUR LATS?
EDIT: Always maintain neutral lumbar like arny did if you attempt his rows. Never bend that shit.

This guy knows what's he's talking about.
Pull-ups are a magic exercise which will literally change you life. I've had 4 reconstructive surgeries on my shoulders once when I was 29 and then when I was 46 if I would've done pull-ups after the first surgeries I never would've re injured them. Pull-ups will get your back working the way it's supposed to.

Thanks. Wish I had videos like this years ago.
I worked the gym for years and No one came to give advice and I go nowhere but injured shoulder where I couldn-t do even One push-up anymore.
After six months of No gym I fell back to where I was before I started. In other words Lazy.
Anyway thanks for the vid I-m sure it will help a lot of people-

Well, this was meaningless but nice to see someone that stands for not doing full pullups. He doesn't say it but watching him do pullups you see that he doesn't even get halfway up in some of the excersices. I want to do full pullups, not whatever he does. Would have helped me understand if he told us why he doesn't do full pullups.

I remember in high school gym; pull-ups always rendered my arms useless afterwards. Later on in life; I discovered the proper way to do pull-ups, and I the burning in my lats, and you would have thought that I had never used those muscles a day in my life. I-m not gonna lie; I had to jump my rest day up by two days.

The most pull-ups I-ve ever done was 9 and that was years ago in Marine boot camp. I can do 2 unassisted now. I just went on Amazon and bought the bands that you suggested. I hope it helps me to improve.

I have never heard of you before now. However, even a blind man can see that you make perfect sense here. Ryan, do you have any regimen programs on video or in print? All I have is home equipment, but I am more than willing to listen and learn. GREAT JOB!

U r like the Bob Ross of strength and fitness guys. I can't engage my lats for love nor money. Did some pull ups yesterday, the way u demonstrated towards the end of this vid and altho I didn't feel them at the time, they are screaming today. - Awesome

Do you reccomend the same thing for someone whose overweight? I am 308 lbs, Down from 450+ and i have been relying on the assisted machine thus far, at what body weight do you think it would be reasonable to expect to do an unasisted pullup?

Yeah I-m no expert but 5 sets of 5 controlled slow negatives every other day got me able to do my first proper one in like a week. I think they are way more helpful than the assisted ones with the bands. But that-s just what worked for me.
