Why You Should STOP Counting Calories (And What To Do Instead) I know you-re hoping I-m going to tell you that you can stop tracking your food, but I-m sorry-if you want the best results? You need to accurately know what you-re consume. And most of us are really bad at estimating portion sizes and accurately remembering what we-ve eaten. Especially when we are first making a lifestyle change. What is measured, can be managed. If you don-t have data, you don-t know what to adjust. It can make you feel like nothing is working without knowing exactly what to adjust. When you track, you can make small changes based on what you-re ACTUALLY doing instead of guessing and feeling like you-re throwing spaghetti at a wall hoping something sticks. However, I do think that a focus solely on calories in vs calories out when we track doesn-t yield the best results nor does it teach us to properly fuel our bodies for long-term success. Trust me-I-ve been down the calorie counting road. It left me always feeling like I was starving and constantly trying to cut calories lower when my weight loss results stalled. It led to me constantly yo-yo dieting because I didn-t truly understand the breakdown of my food and how to create a balance and a true change. I-d create the deficit, lose weight, then increase my calories and regain what I-d lost. And even when I lost weight, I never achieve the body recomposition results I wanted. I-d get skinny but never look leaner. So if you want to feel fueled while also achieving amazing body recomposition results what should you be doing instead? Learn More about Macros

Naw. Wrong. It's good to track everything. Then make necessary adjustments during the process. These are just analytics that measures performance and results. The more you know the better. YO-YO diet happens, because you are being impatient and reverting back to your old habits because you may be giving up a little bit too early on your game plan during the weight loss process. You probably look in the mirror and gave up or stand on the scale then gave up because you weren't getting quick enough results to your likings and reverted back to your old habits. instead of accessing the situation and pinpointing the necessary adjustments based on those analytics. Which probably are just little adjustments day to day until you achieve the perfect happy medium balance where you start getting a momentum of the weight loss in satisfying rhythm where you achieve through constant adjusting.

Sometimes it's a total nightmare trying to track while also wrangling my two young children and trying to get them out in time for school. It's why I often give up on tracking, it's such a headache. I'm having to juggle dozens of other little details, like getting them to get dressed, working on tying shoes, or just wearing shoes, inside out/backwards clothing and grabbing their lunches, making sure they have water to go, homework packed etc Taking the time to weigh and measure everything goes out the window many days and then I say f it, it's too much. I know people talk about also eating the same meals over and over and over again to make things easier but that is soooo boring. Any moms out there with young kids have tips on how to get through tracking easier?

This is such good information, I really think everyone needs to know this!
I personally have been increasing my protein intake and also fiber. It is making a huge difference for me. I've always been a protein craver, so much so that it messed up the balance of my keto diet. But recent health issues, and the results of my blood work, are making me see there is a reason for my cravings.
I know! I know! I need to track my food in a more comprehensive way than just sticky notes and scrap paper. But even those have been helpful.
Thanks for another great video!

After watching a previous video, I changed my macro settings to 40% protein 30% carbs and 30% fat. I-m doing pretty well on the carbs and fat, but I am having a hard time getting anywhere near the protein that is recommended for me. I am a vegan and I eat lots of tofu but I can-t seem to get even close. I am adding protein powder to a smoothie but I can-t seem to eat enough to get the protein I need. Any suggestions?

Can you recommend an app to track macros? I consume very few preprocessed food. I basically cook everything from scratch and prepare even my own basics, like yogurts, tomato sauce chicken stock concentrate, ice cream, etc. so I cannot easily scan barcodes from products with the telephone. Two years ago I turned 50, a moment I truly enjoyed, but since then I-m only gaining fat around the belly like crazy.

Thank you Cori! I have been following the six pack macro hack to loose the last few lbs and to recomp since May 25. My big win is that I have EASILY stayed in a deficit by focusing on protein (im vegetarian. This is the longest I have gone staying consistently in a deficit without feeling hangry or weak. I am down a few lbs but my body is definitely leaner and more muscular. Thank you!

Thank you for all the nutritional information and training technique videos. As a whole food plant based runner, I-m focused on energy and gaining muscle mass. Thanks for mentioning plant based eating in this video! I find I have so much more energy for everything cutting out animal products.

Dieting is something that seems to be very personal. I for example am somewhat addicted to the feeling of overeating. Tracking calories for a small time frame every couple months helps me to remember how much the portions should be.

Watching this whilst eating half a bag of chips. On the other hand, today was 15 miles on the bike and 40 minutes with weights for at total of 2008 calories plus a BMR of about 2600 should off-set that somewhat. :-)
