In this video, youll see Qatar Airways First Class from Doha to Cairo. Its a regional first class thats unique to Qatar Airways. Most airlines in the Middle East offer separate, First Class cabins, but Qatar Airways does things differently. We had access to the Al Safwa First Class Lounge, which youll explore. Youll also see the First Class cabin thats identical to Business Class. So, whats up with this distinction? Let me know in the comments below. This is another leg of our #NewlywedWorldTour in which we traveled around Africa as part of our honeymoon. Join us for this flight from Doha to Cairo onboard a 777-300! Yes, the plane on the thumbnail is a 777-200sorry

I love flying in and out of Doha. and living here, for the matter. It's a beautiful place, if a bit congested during peak times (Arab Cup is ongoing right now, and it'll be the World Cup next year. geez)
Qatar is notorious for equipment swaps on shorter flights - I recently flew from Amman to Doha. I was originally scheduled for a 787-8, then a 787-9, then an A330, an A321, then finally the A350-900 (A7-ALZ) that took us back home.
British Airways stored their A380s here during the pandemic, but those are being reactivated.
20 of Qatar's A350-900s and -1000s are grounded currently by the Qatar Aviation Authority due to issues with the paint onboard, and Qatar is currently in a row with Airbus about it. In fact, I booked a flight from DOH-BOS this February, with it being advertised as QSuite, but have since been downgraded to the older, reverse herringbone product aboard. Did you know that Qatar has 5 separate business class products?

Hello, my name is Merritt. I'll tell you the reason guitar. Airlines. Kohl's business class. First class. It's because of them. Way that they identify. The luxury. In that part of the world. And the culture. I've flown with the airline. In there quite good. Have what they do. Furthermore, I'm disabled. And they are very attentive. Two people with disabilities. I've thought I would throw that in. For future. Viewers also I want to tell you that I really enjoy your videos. And I hope that you and Suzanne. Have a wonderful time. Life together. She seemed wonderful. Lady. Someday we'll cross paths. He will meet. I hope so. Until then see you in the sky.

I just flew Qatar First Class Cape Town-Doha-Cairo and on the outbound flight from Doha to Cairo I got the 777-300 Q-suite which is the same excellent product I had on the CPT-DOH leg in Business Class. I must say it is impressive for a rather short flight. From CAI-DOH it was an older A330 so not the suite, but still a bit better and more modern that what was in your review. So conclusion is that it depends on the aircraft and I suppose they fly bigger planes on busier days. I dont find the big difference between First Class and Business Class Lounge.

Huh, in canada we do the opposite. There is never such a thing as first class, because we like to think we're egalitarians. There is however, business class, which is equivalent to what other airlines (not the super luxurious ones, but like, normal american or european airlines) would call first. And premium, which other airlines would call business. And then what other (european) airlines would call premium, we just called preferred seats.

Jeb, thanks for sharing a flight over unknown country. I realise you were comfortable, but the question remains: did you get what you paid for. In some ways we ( Australians) are lucky when we choose a Middle Eastern carrier, we invariably get what we paid for. but enough of that. Trust the remainder of your round the world honey moon flights go without unexpected bumps, look forward to your ongoing journeys to share. Enjoy!

They market regional as first class for similar reasons US airlines do it, so frequent flyers can earn more miles and points on the short hops between Middle Eastern countries, and so they can relieve the Al Mourjan Business Class lounge in Doha by spreading the regional first class passengers into the Al Safwa First lounge. I spoke at length to a Qatar Airways employee on the ground in Doha about the very same thing!

Nice review but I think youre just playing safe. Lol. I mean, its all good comments you got there. I think its okay to feel bad that its not Qsuite as what you originally booked but I understand the aircraft change though. Overall, it was a good review and QA service is still the best. Ill be flying to Cairo from Doha soon. Congrats to the newly wed.

You gotta love the 777. A really nice aircraft. This was a cool video, having a first-class on this plane is quite interesting. Because like you said the seats are technically business class seats but Qatar says there first-class. Still its a nice seat overall and its way nicer than what i've ever flown in. Great video as always Jeb! Cya in the sky! :D

Nothing worse than thinking you are getting one product and getting stuck with another inferior product even if it is far superior to the domestic first-class you get here in the states. The question is, what did you pay and did you get what you paid for?
reply

It was kinda misleading when I booked business class from Doha to Sofia and got a sub par quality business class that you would get on a low budget business class seat. It was premium economy at best guised as business class.
reply

You have such a graceful way of addressing issues without denigrating the airline yet still manage to get your message across. This is rare amongst vloggers. Nicely done and another great video as always.
reply

It's not really a quirk when you think of European airlines selling economy class with the middle seat blocked out as business class and American airlines selling premium economy seats as first class.

Loving following your trip and to see you in the First Lounge, which is amazing. You used to be able to get a bedroom within the lounge for 6 hours, which is pretty awesome and a treat.

reply

For the same reason US Airlines call their regional business seats First class lol. At least they offer lie-flat seats and and not Premium Economy seats like in the US.
reply

I think the switch was due to the issues with the A350 paint/body. I believe Qatar's regulators grounded the plane to help in the dude between the airline and Airbus.

Fantastic flight review. Q Suite is absolutely much better than this seat, but I'm still OK with this seat for this 3 hour-flight if I paid a reasonable price
reply

Jeb are u sure of the airline u were flying? Looks old school
Jeb remeber north Americas first class is also business class but without lounge access

reply

KE does something similar with the front rows of its A330s where first class seats are identical to business class seats but with upgraded soft products.
reply

For me, swapping out the Qsuite for these 1st class seats for your trip from Doha to Cairo is worth it because of the access to the 1st class lounge inDoha
reply

Qatar is apparently notorious for switching equipment on flights, so you book and it says Q-suites and then you get regular older business class seats.
reply

Some 777 Qatar Airways delivers this first class so yeah not all Qatar Airways have this first class Qatar Airways now mostly use Q suites
reply

1: 40 I think the reason for the Qatar Quirk would be because something weird is happening with Qatar Airways right now, I think; and I am not sure.
reply

I guess they are copying the American tradition of calling regional (since they don't have domestic) flights' business class' as a first class seat?
reply

Yes its a little bit strange but cabin is business but youll get access to that beautiful first class lounge. I fly from Doha to Dubai and it was same
reply

They like to call it first class flights within the arab network because arabs would demand for a premium highest class category they could get.
reply

The dust/pollution haze over Cairo looks bad. Doha car centric bad urban design dust/carbon/toxic pollution is not good either. It is not for me.
reply

Why did you pay for the transit hotel? Al Safwa has private rooms, and their smoking lounge has a humidor with complimentary cubans.
reply

Sounds like domestic first vs business in the US. That's my best guess, though their product is far superior to ours still.
reply

I think these are the most comfortable airline seats ever. I find these seat far more comforatble than the Q suites seats.
