Our trip starts from the Amtrak Moynihan Train Hall and we'll even explore the Amtrak Metropolitan lounge in New York city! In this video, youll see Amtraks NEW Viewliner II Bedroom. This is the first new carriage for Amtrak in more than 25 years and youll see all of its highlights. Including the Viewliner II Roomette, Viewliner II Accessible Bedroom, and of course the Viewliner II Bedroom! Youll even see Amtrak meals on their East Coast journeys, which arestill a bit disappointing. If youd like to learn more about the other room types

I used the zephyr to sl UT. The time it takes get to JFK and getting into aircraft riding with them does not save much time overnite hotel. The sleeper the train ride makes sense with food included. Beats high price airport food. The train is down town to downtown the ground ride to and from airport eats up time so airplane riding dose not save much time with expense of tickets hotel ground transportation and food. Only why use using my own airplane even though I go slower the commercial airlines thing are my own time. The car verses the bus car is on your own time. I got more airport choices the commercial airlines, with Enterprise coming to you with rental cars and being in smaller towns. A days rent is cheaper then taxi and Uber

About ensuring that you get a new (VLII) sleeper:
First off, nothing is guaranteed. Amtrak occasionally substitutes a VLI for a VLII, or vice versa.
Second, the other FL train, the Silver Meteor, is currently suspended, and its cars have been added to the Silver Star. As Jeb said, the even-numbered cars are the VLII's. But Amtrak is planning to resume service on the Silver Meteor on 10/3//22, at which time the Silver Star will probably go back to its normal consist of just 2 sleepers. Prior to the Meteor's suspension, the Star's sleeper ending in 10 was the VLl, and the new VLII was the car ending in 11, which is opposite of what they are currently. We won't know until 10/3 which car or cars will be VLII's after that date.

Just took Amtrak from Philidelphia to New York on the Acela. No Moynihan Train Hall. I got to get off across the street back in the old (slightly renovated) Penn Station. It was brighter than before but not great. The fact this is the train to Florida is no surprise - it has been the only profitable long-distance train for Amtrak since its inception besides the Northeast Corridor and the train from Philidelphia to Harrisburg, PA (capital of PA. The rest of the Amtrak system is subsidized by the US government. All of it.

I am shocked that this is considered a superior room! It's really small and cramped, I'd get claustrophobic trying to use that tiny child sized toilet. Those seats do not look the least big comfortable and your main chair is some fold out jobby? What the heck is that about? The regular rooms on most trains are even worse than this? Oh man I was considering a train trip to see the country but after seeing how miserable the rooms are and they price they charge for them, forgetaboutit.

Boy. 2-1/2 hours late. Meanwhile, take a train in Japan and its on time to the minute. And the high-speed Acela is the same speed as driving. What a pity. That new sleeper looks really nice. I think Id love riding the train in the rain, looking out the window like that. Im surprised by how long the train spends just to traverse Florida. Is the speed much lower? Many of your shots seemed like it was moving more slowly than it was farther north.

Making people stand is horrible. You have seniors and handicapped people who need to sit. I have taken that train and most times its already 3 hours late just getting to Ft Lauderdale. The trains are not fast at all. Taking the same trip by car is quicker. These trains barely break 60 miles an hour. Amtrak needs its own tracks so that they can raise their speeds and keep to a schedule. Oh, you have too many com, so aI stopped watching.

If not on the east coast Amtrak not financially feasible at all. From Nashville you would have to drive 4 hours (without traffic and construction) to Atlanta, or go over to Memphis with the same issues.
We need the state capitols and major cities connected.
But some union rule against it probably.
I have been told by RR workers that freight companies own the track and won't allow, but have not been able to confirm.

How do you figure driving NYC to Florida 14. 5 to drive. It takes us 18 hours and we are 2 hours south of NYC snd we leave at Midnight. And you figure an 18 hour drive to get to Miami I think you want to add 6 hours from nyc.
It looks expensive to take a family of 4 to travel in comfort $4000. each person one way? Thats a nice plane ride RT for 4 to Europe.
Flying looks faster and cheaper.

The new sleepers are a dream compared to the aged, decrepit ones Amtrak had been selling at a premium for decades. If you rode them any distance you know what I mean. Circulated air. Cruddy curtains. Doors that fling open. Bathroom stench. But it was funny to hear this accommodation described as cozy. That's a 10 room mansion compared to the economy sleeper!

This made me miss the Panama Limited and its old Pullman Heavyweight cars. That dining car, the stove was wood fired and the crew had no issues calling ahead to the next station to get stuff to make off menu items. They liked me enough that every time I got on board, I got a cheeseburger and fries for me, and a couple of hamburger patties for my two dogs.

This video has encouraged me to take the Amtrak. I love flying. So I probably wont take Amtrak for long distance rides. Maybe an hour to two hours at the most. I also noticed your Briggs and Riley luggage. I have the same baseline carryon in black and the baseline in the check in. Very good quality luggage bro

I have used Amtrak several times and always opt for the sleeper car. It is great since the diner is part of the package, and the food was always top notch, and since I am a vegetarian, I was really pleased with the options available to me. Really worth the price. I recommend it to anyone who wants to enjoy the trips.

While I like your videos, I have to call you on the comment about seating in the train hall. You know as well as everyone else that its got nothing to do with people spending money in the shops and EVERYTHING to do with the city trying to hide the homeless by not giving anywhere for them to sit or rest
reply

In the west, Amtrak doesn't own any of the track, so you don't have to have a breakdown to be sitting on the sidelines. The train usually arrives within 24 hours of its intended time unless you are required to take a bus the rest of the way because of a breakdown.

In my dream world this line would extend from the state of Maine all the way to Key West. The Key West extension would be built strong enough to withstand a category 5 hurricane like the one in 1935 that ended to Flagler railroad.
reply

Thanks for your Amtrak videos. If I was in NYC I To would leave anyway possible. But that trip to Miami would be my last choice. Only a government train could take that route from point A to B. Thanks for all your work.

I have taken the auto train several times, however that was 40+ years ago long before it was part of Amtrak and they had a second departure point of Louisville KY. It was fun, like any other train trip.

I just love your videos, I did the Coast Starlight from L. A Union Station to Tacoma, Washington in coach, it was a 37 hour adventure, I want to do it again but next time I'll upgrade to the bedroom.

Amtrak rail is worthless. No reason for it to still exist. Makes no moneynobody uses it.
Totally irrelevant that 40% of people live along rail lines, which I dont believe anyway.

I am manifesting on a train trip from my state Virginia to Las Vegas Nevada for my move. I so want to take Amtrak now. It looks stunning and relaxing for me as an anti flier myself

I took amtrak to Denver in the fall of 2021, I love trains and couldn't wait for the trip. But I thought I was gonna die as it was a rough ride, my wife said never again! Lol

About 30 years ago, I took the Auro Train from Sanford, FL all the way to Lorton, VA. I then took it back to Sanford, FL. It was an interesting first time experience.
reply

Fun fact for you. Amtrak 91/92, The Silver Star can be seen on virtual railcam coming and going in Plant City, Florida. Both traIns pass that camera twice each.
reply

After watching your Canada 4 night ride, the Amtrak food leaves a lot to be desired. With the price for tickets, they could do a little better by asking Canada
reply

I'd go broke just paying for food in the Cafe Car. Was that $7. 25 for just a slice of DiGiorno pizza? I could get the whole pie in a grocery store for $8.
reply

Was going to do a cross country train trip till I found out how much! I could fly to Hawaii and stay first class hotel for a week the cost is RIDICULOUS!
reply

A new experience for you? Where I live the only thing that travels by railroad is coal. For me, to SEE an Amtrack go by would be a new experience!
reply

I am sorry but I prefer the Coast Starlight though i do want to take the empire builder when I am in the US and not just visiting my family.
reply

LOVE your videos, man. But that country music is a bit. weird. Much prefer a modern/lounge/chill/upbeat music kinda like Casey Neistat's
reply
