ONE OF THE WORLD'S OLDEST AIRBUS! Air Transat A310 Lagmire: My wife and I flew this same aircraft from Dominican Republic to Vancouver after air Transats planned a330 broke down and this aircraft showed up as a backup some hours later. This was in 2008 or so. Anyway our flight was scheduled for about 7 hours but ended up being just over 11, as we hit weather over Florida and were re routed up the eastern seaboard to around the Carolinas before making a track westward toward Vancouver.
We hit turbulence so bad that paneling was falling off of the ceiling, walls and overhead luggage. Oxygen mask started dropping down, not because they were supposed to but because turbulence knocked them loose. There was talk of emergency landing in Georgia. The flight attendants looked horrified. This airframe is cursed.

I had a flight with air transat from glasgow to Toronto with no tv (7 hours) but I thought it was an airbus a330 that I went on. But it must have been the a310, it was years ago so I cant quite remember. I went to Vancouver and when I came back it was a shorter flight even thought its way further away (probably because of the jet stream) and it had TVs. Also 2: 18 is that incredibles character

Ive only flown AirTransat once, from YYZ to AMS in July of 2012. From what I remember, it was a good flight. One thing I remember was the electronic inflight map. It was old and outdated - it didnt show the borders of Nunavut, our new territory which was officially formed in April 1999. Its 2020 and I cant believe(5: 55) they still havent updated the map.

Hi! Air Transat holds the world record in sailing with a jet plane after a fuel leak drained the tanks. Their A330 flew 19 minutes and made 120 kms to make a no-power landing on the Azores. Search for Air Transat fuel leak or Flight 236. The plane C-GITS is back in the fleet for AT since April 2019. Look out when you enter an A330 of them next time. :-)

I remember when I was about 13 years old, I flew on a Cyprus Airways A310, BHX-LCA and LCA-BHX, and I have remembered to this day those flights were probably the most comfy flights I've ever taken. Then again, at 13 I wasn't 6ft tall so that was likely a factor! I still love the A310.

Noel, do you ever go home, I thought ur life was exciting but now I think exhausting. Keeps me entertained tho. So thumbs up. Oh! does anyone fly really older planes like a 707, Man, could you find one and have the guts to fly in it?
reply

0: 50 Noel has experienced how it will feel like flying in a all systems, equipment and bugs fixed up 737 max in this Rudder fallen off and reattached A310: ) so this is how it might feel flying in 737 max in the future: )

I was lucky enough to fly an A310 from LGW-YUL and back last year and enjoyed it much more than I expected to. I'm really gonna miss these planes, lucky you getting to use one for one last time!

Flash back. This takes me back and was lucky enough to fly on Wardair's A310-300 from YEG - YYZ and back in the late 80s and then Transat from YEG - CUN in the mid 2000's. They will be missed.

I have watched and listened to Mr. Philips for quite some time now. Realized that he was making me sad. So many dreadful experiences. Why are you just flying around Mr Philips?

I used to fly those A310s in the 90s when Emirates owned them (DEL-DXB-LGW. EKs economy configuration was 2-4-2. Air Transat mist have converted them to a more dense 3-3-3.

Thanks for this Noel, I'm flying with Air Transat later in the year on an A330-200. Hoping its at least as comfortable. I think seats in economy on it are in 3-4-3.

I understand this video is from a few years ago, but I think cargo airlines like UPS still fly this type of plane. Maybe you could mail yourself somewhere!

Now-defunct UK airline Monarch used to fly the A300 until not all that long ago. I remember flying it down to Majorca back in 2012 or so.

I love your trip reports but as a person from newfoundland everyone here hates it when people call it newfinlind. Sorry
reply

This is not the world's oldest airbus, the aibus a300 still flies and was made 2 years earlier than a310 and still flies
reply

I am a big fan of Air Transat
Even in their 3-3-3 configuration they manage to make their cabin spacious and enjoyable
