Dixie hikes another local trail and gives her review of it. Share your hiking stories with us in the comments below! :) Lynn: Hey Dixie, I love these local trail reviews! Keep em coming! BTW have you hiked any of the Pinhoti Trail? It starts near Sylacauga, AL and has about 160 miles in Alabama heading northeast to the Georgia border. It continues for about 170 miles in Georgia ending where it meets the Benton MacKaye Trail. The Pinhoti Trail is well marked, has some very nice shelters, and reminds me of the AT. The trail heads are well marked and you can do great day hikes, 2 or 3 day hikes, or just about any length hikes you may desire. Ive been section hiking it over the past couple years on my days off and am now just 30 miles shy of the Georgia border! It actually goes through the southernmost portion of the Appalachian Mountains and is very beautiful.
