Ive always been a verry creative hiker especially when it comes to weight. As you well know, less is soooooo much better!
I have to admit that this is a great idea. I was the first person--that I knew of---to ever use the grease pot AS my pot on the AT---when WallyWorld used to sell em---now the only place I can find them is on Amazon----but as you are aware they are pretty hot to hold and try to eat out of. Whether this cozy will work for my lazy ass or not I dont know but I am goin' to make one and find out.
. just when I thought that there was nothing else that I could learn about the AT, along comes a cute blonde that shows me the error of my thoughtful ways.
Thanks. your videos are great. you epitomize real.
Always a pleasure. If you happen to be out on the AT this year maybe I will have the pleasure of meeting you on another thru-hike.

Great video, i really enjoyed that, thank you, Happy Trails, i have the wall-mart grease pot, little different, but i have the concept now, thank you for that, Ok, so my question is, what is the best bear bag kit for a through hike on the AT, bag type, size and brand, and then what type of cordage, I mean sure, you could always get the 12 liter cuban fiber z-paks kit, but not everyone has 50 ducks to spend on a bear bag kit, So i was just interested in knowing what worked for you? thanks for all your good info, Ok update, i just saw your video my Gear picks, So it kinda cancels out my question, also a very good video, So i will halfto think of a good question! .

Love your videos, you are one of three who I have been watching that have inspired and prepared me for my hike! I can only section hike, I have a really great job that I can get away from for 30 days at most in one time, so. I am going to hike Springer to Mt Crossings Labor Day weekend, and if I like it I will venture on to Top of Mt hostel. I have all my stuff coming in piece meal, Im really excited and so thankful for your experienced perspectives. Thanks, from Tunnel Hill, GA!

Reflective bubble wrap only has a good R value if there is an air space (read the specs from the company. It only reflects radiation. Right against your pot or hot food has the heat conduct right to the large (relative) air in the bubbles, and out to the outside world. If reflective insulation was so good we would wear it or use it as a sleeping pad right against our bodies.

Dixie, I've already made a pot cozy and used it several times. It's a great idea. I'm going to add a baffle, connecting it on 1 side so I can pry up the unconnected side so my oatmeal packets won't fall over. When I'm not using it for oatmeal there will just be more insulation on the bottom.

This may be a weird question but how do you carry it? Is it on the pot or do you carry it separately, in which case it seems like it would get mangled. Ive been backpacking for 35 years. I even made a little cozy for my mug, but I never thought of one for my pot!

Hi Dixie, what did you feel during and immediately following your summit of Katahdin? How did you feel in the days, weeks and months following your thru-hike? Was it difficult to pick up where you left off back home after you finished the AT?

I think there is a difference between Reflectix and car sunvisor material: Reflectix uses mostly aluminum layers on both sides of bubble wrap, the other uses a reflective plastic.
The sunvisor stuff could melt.

just a observation for the edges, tape the edges when pieces are flat like trips folding half of the tape to cover both sides, then form your round forms. hope that helps. love your videos thank you!
