Hitchhiking on the Appalachian Trail Thomas: Another rockin' good video, Dixie. Good info, and I appreciate your personal opinions too, such as owing the person who stops a story or two on your trip, very true IMHO. One tiny detail on your sponsorship: you might inform your readers each time to click on show more so that the links drop into view. Just figured it out, click, there's your ebook, fabulous, and another click takes me to my personal Amazon account, easy peasy. So now I can help you out a bit, hurray!

Something to know about pepper spray. You should buy one and practice with it. A lot. Otherwise, there's a chance that you'll point it at yourself when you use it (heat of the moment, not taking time to look at what you're doing, etc) Plus you'll know it's capabilities and shortcomings. And if you do get some on yourself, you'll REALLY know its capabilities and shortcomings.

You're such an inspiration to hike. I have week long backpacking trips planned for next year because of your videos and I just purchased my new Osprey AG pack. I also plan to hike the AT in 2018 and then the PCT. When you can, could you make a video talking about the gear you plan to bring with you on the PCT and why you've changed it or kept it from what you learned on the AT?

I am sure there are safer ways to hitch hike but after watching the documentary about the girl in the box. She was hitch hiking from oregon to California. She got into a car with a man, woman & a baby. Safe right? Wrong. For the next 7-8 years she was tortured & kept in a box under their bed & basement. You give great tips. buddy system highly recommended.

A few months ago I was headed to Pine Grove Furnace to get spring water and ended up picking up a hiker from Australia. His friend he was hiking with had a fall and was airlifted out. I ended up driving him all the way to Hershey. If you get in trouble on the trail and need help ask us locals. We will do all we can to help you out.

So I've been telling my wife about this great gal on Youtube who reminds me of her because she's all natural and doesn't wear makeup. And she finally watches a video with me and it's this one with you all dolled up! LOL Anyways, she too liked the video and found it both informative and fun to watch. Happy Trails to You!

I live near the AT near Port Clinton PA and have often offered rides to hikers when I see them at the grocery store or Walmart. Sometimes they are smelly and muddy so what. I do ask questions because I am interested in your journey. A zero isn't a zero if you have walk to resupply

Great video! Shuttles can be few and far between ( I know a few who are 100% solid ) and when you are footsore and want some chow a good Samaritan can really make your day. Giving a hiker a ride definitely qualifies as trail magic IMHO. Thanks for sharing!

Dixie - thank you for your videos. I cant take the time for a through hike but you have inspired me to section hike. Next year I plan to do Springer to Fontana Dam and each year complete another section. Hopefully I can get to Katahdin someday.

I know not every AT hiker can or wants to be a section hiker like me and that's fine, but one of the advantages of being a section hiker is that my car is only 35-40 miles away so I don't have to hitchhike to towns to resupply.
