A bad manual transmission does not add to the fun. The Type-R is more expensive but interior is much better and I think it’s the better car overall, but the dealer markup kills it. I would actually go with the Elantra N which is even cheaper than the GRC and just as much fun, even though it’s not a hatchback. It has much larger back seats and I would say a slightly better interior.

I think the lack of hatchbacks and therefore, hot hatches are the result of car manufacturers marketing departments. They could create the demand if they wanted by they're pushing higher-margin products instead (i. e. CUV and SUVs. The disappearance of the Honda Fit, Toyota Yaris, and regular Golf, are all because of chasing profit.

I would get the Golf R. Mainly because of it's budget Audi looks inside and out. All of the intricate driving differences between the CTR, GR Corolla, and Golf R I wouldn't be able to notice like the auto media does. They're all fast and fun and Golf R looks the best. Although, the GR Corolla looks good too.

Is it wrong to wish this was in a MR2 that didn’t need carbon fiber to lower its center of gravity Would I pay the same MSRP for 2 less seats and 2 trunks As long as they skipped the hammer head signature because the nose was that slim as LED’s take space. 16: 55

If we can’t get the GR Yaris, this is a pretty good consolation. Heard it’s quite fun, so would be a tough choice given all the cool offerings it aligns with so just depends on individual wants and needs of its the right choice.

Honda blundered by putting a FWD system in the Type-R. I expected them to correct the blunder in the Acura Integra Type-S, but they doubled down on their Civic Type-R blunder, by repeating it in the Acura.

I’m keeping my 2019 Audi S3 for as long as I can.
Affordable fun.
If the Stealerships weren’t so frigging greedy more people would be able to enjoy this car.
Great review Alex.

You didn't mention the Integra which is what I chose over this car. Mainly due to the styling, interior/cargo space, adaptive dampers and other luxuries, and the engine takes mods ALOT better.

I daily a manual 2023 GRC, the clutch is considerably heavier than the manual in the older GTI but you get use to it. The GRC is lots of fun, note though has to be serviced every six months.

Here in Canada the GRC is more than the Golf R, even with the optioned titanium exhaust.
Looking at the review from Throttle House, the automatic transmission in the GRC is terrible.

I might consider buying one, but only if it will last as long as my 2007 corolla le with manual trans. I am not certain that the gr will be anywhere near as reliable or long lived!

As SavageGeese has tested, the automatic version saps a lot of the power from the engine and is actually slower than the manual version. Something worth considering

I went back to a manual 2019 Type R at age 65 as my daily, and never looked back. (hurts my neck too much) Alex has no rivals in the review business!
