We Sold The Tesla

The Model 3 is now gone. Why did we sell it? Because we completed our reviews and it was time to move on. Why didn't we keep it: because it isn't a Model Y. Had this been Tesla's compact crossover, we probably would have kept it. Rick Jolly: SR+ has 54. 5 kWh usable. It's rated at 225 Wh/mile 240 miles EPA = 54 kWh battery. It's such simple math, yet 4 videos later Alex is still asserting that he has a SR+, when in fact he has a SR with a software limited 50 kWh battery (225 Wh/mile 220 miles EPA = 50 kWh)

Heat pumps (as implemented in cars) are only really efficient within quite a narrow outside temperature band - not too close to the target temperature and not too cool. Teslas approach for Model 3 (which differs significantly from X and S) of combining the interior, drive train and battery cooling loops with dynamic routing (see also Super bottle) and the ability too stall the motor to generate heat when more is required than generated through normal motor and battery operation is quite ingenious, cheaper to implement and not drastically far off from a heat pump solution (in its ideal conditions and better outside of those. It's pretty much impossible to thoroughly review and compare the efficiency in varied temp conditions (without multiple seasons or lots of traveling, so: still a very good review overall. Thanks.

Vegan Leather - we have a word for that, it's called Vinyl. I have a 2018 Alltrack SE with VW's version of vegan leather. I'm not pulling any punches here, it's not even close to the feel of real leather. While it's certainly better than the vinyl of years ago, it doesn't even match the leather I had on my 2001 Dodge Durango (which wasn't the best leather out there by far. My Wife's 2013 Acura RDX has really nice leather seats that are far softer and more comfortable than my Alltrack's seats. PS: Not meant as a criticism of Alex - his reviews are among the best.

Alex, your review provided excellent information with a very articulate presentation. But, you somewhat date yourself by using the phrase, .went off the reservation. I am not the least bit PC, but I imagine there are others who will flame you for using a term they may consider culturally insensitive to native americans. Overall, keep up the excellent work

I love your comments regarding regenerative brakes, but I think Tesla does it the right way. All blended brake systems suffer from weird behavior and everyone notices they are not normal. Tesla lets you one-pedal drive or friction brake. Simple. Clear. Exactly what one expects.

The most wise decision you made ever. Is cospiracy because we disagree with you? Its just the truth about electric cars. We respect, your opinion about Tesla & electric cars. We also, have our opinion. Expensive & cannot return you any money. The facts say it.

Did anyone else get an email from Tesla that bought a standard model that they were going to update the software to limit the miles I have the Maroney sticker it says and I have a standard plus. Do you think they will go back on that?

But. When the screen goes blank and car becomes unusable, who cares about battery range. Tesla needs to get their heads out of their asses and disable background debugging from which display overheats and damages itself.

Bet you got your insurance bill and was shocked at how crazy high it was. That's how Teslas are. More to insure than a Hellcat and getting higher as insurance companies continue to lose money on claims.
