I have a look at one of the more frustrating things in the automotive repair world. The intermittent! Lucky for me in this case at the very end I was abler to isolate the problem with this instrument cluster and make the call. Sometimes you just have to wait for the problem to get worse unfortunately

My 2007 odeesay did same thing all the lights flashing, triangle yellow flashing, engine running like chit and barely made it home and there it been sitting for months because i just recently ( before all the flashing lights ) replaced the engine because a spark plug flew out and it was possible residue from damage could have gone into cylinder and make internal damage, cost 2700 dollars then after couple months damaged cylinder head and another 1700 dollars, then two weeks flashing light problem so said hell with it! park it! Now understand by this video where problem lies so i will just go buy a new cluster and try that and send this van down the road. when you test drove was the triangle yellow light still on? i can go out and start my van and it runs fine but dont want to chance it to far down the road, my guess now is that it will die again, so gonna look for price on new cluster. Iam here in colorado and we got virus but you folks getting slammed! SAD! BUT here STILL see to many careless people crowding parks amd not covering with masks and many close to each other! their the ones that will be lined up in cars wetting their pants hopeing they test negative and if positive how many they contaminate? Their ignorance feeds the overrun hospitals. Iam 70. and me and wife been in house six weeks now just go out for food 6 am morning for seniors only at walmart or king soopers, exsercise on treadmill or up and down stairs everyday. Good luck out there!

This is a known issue with new generation PCB's as they do not use Lead anymore, the material used these days can crack and also creep across components causing high resistance paths which causes issue. The worst part is the opens that happen when hot/cold of the IC chips as the flex as warm then cool. As it started to get faster with time it shows it could be a IC chip joint: ) real nightmares for Electronic repairs. Usually they just reprocess the board with heat to see if fault goes.

You mentioned that the battery was and is shot and needed replacement, back in the early 90ies, I had a GM product that the battery went dead, after changing the battery the AC heat controller was ( locked my words) no functions worked at all temp was on high. Trying to diagnose the issue I unplugged it saw nothing wrong, reinstalled it it worked fine, shipped the vehicle no issue. Later that year another GM product same issue, went right to control unplug, re plug done! Just my experience.

Hey man, I am really impressed with your diagnostic, electrical pathway and ingenuity skills. I enjoy watching you diagnose and repair things on these modern cars with all the freaking circuitry, firmware and whatnot. You really take an intelligent approach to it and I dig it. I don't sub to many people, but I think I'm gonna here. Hi from KY by the way. Also, you got a cool family. Live long and prosper as has been said.

A 2010 Dodge journey started acting funny, triangle with a lightning bolt on instrument cluster, when the battery was very low and the driver kept trying to start it. Afterwards the instrument cluster kept cycling on and off and turned the car off randomly, usually in traffic.
Moral of the story don't keep cranking a modern car when the battery is dead 'cause you'll screw something up.

I rather see an honest video of a mechanics work than to see an 'always successful' mechanic videos. I love to see all of your days work as a mechanic, so it can humble many viewers to exercise patience and practices. People learn from even the failures and humble experiences. I'm not saying YOU failed at all. I'm saying experiences like this can teach all viewers.

Ours did the same thing.
Found out it was alternator / Battery issue
Had to replace both, because the battery was very bad and made the alternator go out, because it became overworked.
Essentially the alternator was supplying the majority of the power.

Test bench the first time did you have full-time power along with key power? Only noticed key power being applied.
Also you stated gets worse longer powered up. Heat gun and cold spray could be used to identify bad section/part.

Sometimes that's the way it is. That dash is all electronic. It gets into a hissy fit and then you threaten it and it starts working again. At least you know next time that it is the cluster acting up and it needs to be changed.

Looks like bad/old solder joints in the cluster. have seen this a few times but usually on Volvos. depending on the cost of the cluster you can send these out to repair shop and have the solder reflowed for a couple hundred bucks
