Ford F-150: Erratic Ding Dong Dinger - PART II Nancy: I had the same thing on a 2005. Ended up getting the cluster. The dealership let us buy the part and when they got it in stock they would not give it to me. Had to put in there shop so they could install. That was the only time I dealt with that dealership. Big cities are nice for that, I have 5 ford deals in 15 mile loop. Mr Greg

My truck, 02 Ford Ranger has been making that sound for years. Upon start up it does it five times 5 times for a total of 25. Which that truck did not do. Not the seat belt, parking brake, or anything else I could think of but now I ll have to check my brake fluid or if I show oil pressure without truck on Later, tomorrow.
Sometimes it ll just start doing it while drive, again, five multiples of 5. My check engine light has been on for years as well. Always comes back with the cheapo CPU reader thing as CamShaft sensor or Crankshaft sensor. Changed out both to no avail. Come smog time, every two years I play the game of disconnecting the battery, drive 50 miles at 55 mph then go get it smogged. Always passes, or has the last three times, which makes me think or know it has nothing to do with smog. But because it s not they some even look at it. The smog guy is the one that told me 50 miles at 55 mph mother. Come November we ll see.

I grew up in Syracuse and was a TV service Tech back in the 70s as a teenager and I worked my way through college in a TV Shop (Shavers TV. When Sony started making the Trinitron TV's, they were a radically different design from conventional TV sets like the RCA and Zenith. United Radio is where we would send the Sonys with problems we couldn't run down, and they also did Police radio repairs/installs. It's good to hear they're doing well, as all the TV shops went out of business in the mid 80s because of cheap and disposable TVs. It was Adapt or die and United Radio was one of the few that found a new niche with automotive electronics.

That's the same air conditioning/radio/CD dash panel I have in my 2010 Ford F250 Super Duty Crew Cab and the same round vents. My instrument cluster is somewhat similar but I dont like mine or this one because it's black and hard to see when it's bright outside and your eyes adjust to the brightness but the instruments are in the dark. Also. the LED is out on my tachometer so I cant see the red arm it at night. I wonder how hard it is to replace that light? I now know it's fairly easy to get the cluster in and out.

Looks and sounds like that truck could use some of your magic in other areas. And since United Radio told you that the cluster had been tampered with (with evidence) if I were the owner of that truck I think I'd give the okay to ya to give it the full inspection to see if there has been any other funny business done with the truck. That is if you would be willing to do it. Better to pay for that now than for sometime down the road to have a Band-Aid break and cost me much more.

Hey Eric O, Thank you for the information about United Radio. I have a 1992 Isuzu Rodeo with the top of the line radio factory installed. There are a few problems with it. Now I know where to get it repaired. To me it is worth getting it repaired because it has phenomenal FM tuner. Thanks again for the great content. I find your videos extremely informative and entertaining. As always keep up the good work. Guy Franks

That's a pretty good service you guys have there. Here in UK we have a company called BBA reman and they do exact same thing plus also does abs pump modules and other modules also. I don't know how expensive United radio is but ours is really inexpensive and yet we still have people doing the DIY repair and won't work right like your customer's one wasn't. Great diagnosis Eric and was a awesome 2 part video

I'm a big fan - a non-American fan. Here is some gentle criticism for you Eric - perhaps you don't need to mention a person's nationality if you want to note they have given you good service. As a Canadian, I can't imagine including the fact that a person was Canadian if they had given me good service ( as your United Radio guy did. Just sayin. Thanks for the video.

I was somewhat surprised you didnt dig in to the beep code from part one of the video. The 5 long beeps indicated either a pressure tire warning or an Air bag faulty light warning/ SRS (safety restraint system.
But your diagnostics was so good, repairing the cluster repaired the annoying 5 beeps and everything that went with it.

reply

Hey Eric, the 5 beeps, pause 5 beeps, pause and I don't remember how many times it repeats Indicates burnt air bag light bulb. May be something else that triggers that same warning but I worked on an 04 f150 that had the same beeping problem. Airbag light had been on for years I was told when it went out the beeping started.

Followed the link from the previous video to United Radio and gave them a call this morning. Mentioned that SMA recommended them. they laughed and said they were getting traffic because of a certain Mr. Eric O. I'll be sending them a TIPM from my Ram 1500 and an instrument cluster from my Chrysler 300. Thank you Sir!
reply

Hi Eric, yes I got them from you and yes the service is excellent. Little expensive but who cares if you do a good job. I am an electronics engineer but I have no diagrams or circuit description and their service is excellent as I have said. So as you say don't touch, send it in and pay their bill. job done.

seems like an extraordinary effort to dupe a customer. all the more reason to get pre-inspection on a used vehicle. like my mima used to say, its the guy with big toothy grin and his arm across your shoulder that is reaching in with his other hand stealing your wallet.
reply

Eric O
How long has your customer owned this truck?
As to the instrument cluster you said it was like a used car special style of thing. Did this customer buy the truck used?
As always thank you for another a great video like always.
