Sell your car for free with Carwow: It’s time for an almighty V8 showdown! We’ve got Mat in the all-new Audi RS7 Performance, and he’s lining up against a BMW M8 Competition & a Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S 4-Door! So let’s see how these ferocious machines compare. Starting with the Audi, it’s packing a 4-litre twin-turbo V8 under the bonnet that can produce 630hp and 850Nm of torque. Power is set to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic gearbox, and it weighs in at 2, 067kg. If you want to pick one up, it’ll set you back around 133, 000. Then we have the BMW M8. Under the bonnet, you’ll find a 4. 4-litre twin-turbo V8, and this can put down 625hp and 750Nm of torque. It comes with four-wheel drive and an 8-speed automatic gearbox, and it tips the scales at 2, 074kg. It’s slightly more expensive than the RS7, with a price tag of 138, 000. Finally, we have the AMG. It’s powered by a 4-litre twin-turbo V8 that produces 639hp and 900Nm of torque. It sends power to all four wheels via a 9-speed automatic gearbox, and it tips the scales at 2, 045kg. It’s the most expensive car here, costing around 154, 000. So the AMG has the most power and the least weight! Surely it’ll be a walkover, right There’s only one way to find out LET’S RACE!

The excuse of sticking to the old school starting method makes little sense. Drivers can still be slower or faster timing the launch. So you’re not taking driver skill out of the equation with that alone (vs a tree. Timing the cars makes up for it in either situation.
It would be nice to see reaction times between drivers and trap speed just like real drag races. Matt you have plenty of money to afford such devices. Do it!

reply

Just a thought, since you guys mostly do 3 drag races why don't you change lanes for the cars each time. Looks like the cars on the left always wins the drag races and the cars on the far right loses.
Also the tarmac looks wet on the right side. Would be exciting to see it.

My manager bought an RS7 in red for his wife and had me tag along with him to pick it up. They did some serious tweaking to the turbos because man you just get thrown violently full throttle lmao. Unfortunately it doesnt have that deep v8 grunt like a Cayenne turbo gt or RSQ8

Why Mat Watson Didn't Bring Out The GT63 se Performance As For Me, it's Not Fair. Yet I'm Still Waiting Forr Drag Race Between C63 se Performance Against It's Rivals If It Was BMW Who Launched The Car, Mat Would Have Done Organizing The Drag Race. This Is Biased

Slower times there for the Beamer and Merc. Probably due to fuel type used. But we've got to give it to Audi, they did very well for the RS7 Performance. BMW, let's get back to work. Audi has caught up. No more 30hp over official numbers. We deal in hundreds now.
reply

That mercedes definitely has an issue. Might be the car, might be the driver. I caught something around running in comfort mode. from the merc driver soo I might say its a driver issue but. This has to be insvastigated. The GT 63s shouldn't be gapped like that.

Can we shake up the drag race formula Even in the form of extended special episodes or something.
Random idea: Price limited tuning to see which engines can give cheap power, then show stock vs tuned using a sort of ghost car aligned between drone shots

It makes no sense to say you react to the hands going down different to lights going out. A reaction is a reaction and the driver is being put to the challenge in the same way, to leave the brake pedal as soon as the hand is moving or the light goes out.
reply

mattwatson, you need to put a VBox in each car and measure 0-60, 1/4 mile to gain a clearer understanding on the stats, that should eliminate driver response. Your reaction time and response is always spot on it's a little unfair
reply

The only problem the RS6/RS7 still have is the weight. If they would manage to build these cars lighter, they would be flying. But unfortunately they can't be faster than the top tier cars in the VAG group (porsche/lamborghini.
reply

there’s definitely something wrong, the M8 is usually around 11. 1, and the gt63s should’ve been way faster on the 1/4. It’s literally just about whose reaction time is faster. Not about the car

I remember the comments when everyone was racing with S and Competition against the normal RS6/7: Audi sucks, they can't compete. A joy to watch how the Performance version now crushes them
reply

So Rory thought the interior was shit with the exterior color and Matt was told Hey, don't let him mug off the combo of that BMW and then walked over to pretend it was amazing with really bad acting.
reply

Audi nailed that RS7 performance
It looks way better than the BMW & Mercedes, outside & inside.
It launches so insanely quick, and sounds brutal. I would prefer this RS7 Perf to a RS6 Perf

reply

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Matt test a BMW and a Merc with those engines on a dyno and find that the BMW had significantly more hp than claimed BMW always lies about their hp
reply

Mercedes is NOT like that performance, it keeps up with M5CS what is a RS7 and a M8 in front of it Carwow needs to check their cars and their tires before even starting the races.

So the m8 competition gran coupe is an 11 second flat car so idk how the Audi beat it. I also am curious to see how the amg which does 11. 1 seconds well day is so slow today
reply

I'm glad about improoved dragrace performance. BUT i'm affraid they replaced TORSEN no maitenance center diff with some multiplate clutch which have less transmission losses: (
