Sell your car for free with Carwow: We’ve got our hands on the all-new AMG C63, and we’re about to find out how it compares to the old C63! Of course, there is one BIG change between the new and old C63. The V8 has been removed, and it’s been swapped with a 2-litre 4-cylinder turbo! The question is, just how much quicker is the new car Well, let’s take a look at the stats! Mat’s in the old C63, and you’ll find a 4-litre twin-turbo V8 under the bonnet that produces 510hp and 700Nm. Power is sent to the rear wheels only via a 7-speed automatic gearbox, and it tips the scales at 1, 750kg. When new, this car cost around 63, 000. Alongside it, we have the new car. Under the bonnet you’ll find the 2-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder, however, there’s also an electric motor on the rear axle! Combined, they produce 680hp and 1, 020Nm, with power sent to all four wheels via a 9-speed automatic gearbox. It’s mightily heavy, mind, weighing in at 2, 190kg, and it costs an eye-watering 100, 000! So the new car has more power, but has Mercedes ruined it by removing the V8 There’s only one way to find out LET’S RACE!

Based on the comments, they must be a misunderstanding why manufacturers reducing the engine size. Its an EU law. 2035 no more exhaust emissions will be permitted for new car registration. All new cars will be electrical then. Till 2035 big companys have to reduce emissions to a certain level. This engine is the beginning. Soon other manufacturers must follow. China also have this kind of regulations. Huge markets change and manufacturers will adapt to this requirements. Dont cry about change. Humans are successful, because we are gifted to change and adapt. Just think 150 years backwards, the common transportation vehicles was a horse, than we used fuel and now we use electricity.

I feel the whole the old one was better because it’s a V8’ argument is a heap of horsesht. I think it’s really cool that Mercedes managed to get so much power out of the new C63’s 4-cyl, it truly is an amazing piece of engineering. It also reminds me of the JDM scene, where big V8’s are virtually absent but high-HP 4-cyl’s are the focus. What the V8 crowd seems to forget is that as long as a car has good dynamics, looks cool, is reliable, and is fast, who cares how many cylinders it has. A V8 doesn’t automatically make a car cool - there are many shitty V8 cars out there.

I'm going against the flow and say that I like progress. The V8 is for petrolheads. The new car is for Car guys. Those are two different things. I like progress and technology. It is just a better tool for driving quickly and getting more bang for your buck. But if you like a V8 sound, I get it. There is no substitute. I'm ready for the hate.

Never has the result of a comparison video been more irrelevant.
Without the V8, it just isn't a C63 AMG and it isn't a desirable proposition.
Also, to say the new car has 170bhp and 320nm more torque, the gap isn't very big. Stage 1 that V8 and it would be gone!

What’s the point when you live here in Australia you can barely drive 80kmh and if you do you get a $400 fine two if you drive over 30km the limit which probably under 70 easy peasy your car get impounded
It’s a money money money making world over here well

We know the answer already. The problem is: I own the V8 sedan and would never own the new one. AWD AMG Merc would have been a better choice. Seems sponsored. I didn't realize this was a C race. As in the Cheap Merc or as I say. CNT Mercedes

v8 we shall miss you. Regardless though, you have to give the guys at AMG to have a 4 cylinder that even though a hybrid it coughs out that much HP, I will say most of that insane torque is from the electric motor. I am down to own one if that time comes.

This is such a fail for Mercedes. Yes, the new one is quicker over a qtr mile, but it loses what made the C63 so desirable, that V8. Also, it has half the engine as before yet puts on over 400kg in weight
Urgh. Don't but one, please!

Car people are strange. You buy gt86 it's all about the engine performance I don't care about handling and boxer sound then you buy new c63: it's not about the performance. It's about feel and the sound pretty schizophrenic if you ask me

The race haven't even started and I can tell this one is trash.
Why wouldn't you pick an AWD from the old version
I know that the new one will probably win also with both awd but to compare an awd vs rwd is just trash!

Matt I've been a fan for MANY years and the new camera is Visually stunning also is the audio BUT just a little tip lower the volume in editing for the Exterior cause it sounds ALOT like OLDER Diesel's just saying mate

that was funny about googling yourself. Hey just wondering do you reset the adaptive learning stuff with the gearbox before you race oh and is there a drift mode surely! if there is, for gds sakes get your act together fellers

It makes no sense to compare a car with two-wheel drive that has a power of 510 km with a car with 4-wheel drive and a power of 680 km. Moreover, I would prefer the old AMG over this new AMG invention

M113, M156, M157 and M177 might be slower and less efficient than the 600 hybrid 4 banger but, those are the ones that won hearts and made the greatest AMG fans we know today.
reply

If you want a V8 you buy a TVR, and old Land Rover or a koenigsegg.
Mercedes should concentrate on ride comfort and nvh insulation, going fast doesn’t suit their brand.

reply

The progression should've been v8 hybrid now, v6hybrid for thr next few years, and v4 hybrid when in like 50 years when I need to be pushed around by my grandkids
reply

V8 Power
This same scenario has happened with the Toyota Land Cruiser 79
The V8 is a thing that steals a man's heart
Now it comes with a 4 cylinder

Perfect example of winning the drag race but losing the market as a result of miss reading the brief from your customers! Classic Business School case study.

Buying a c63 with a 2L engine is like buying all inclusive holiday but only being given toast and tea, it will fill you up but it’s not what you paid for
reply

The old W205 is still absolutely rapid, it’s a better drivers car in every way from what I can see although I haven’t driven the new one
